CCTV Surveillance at Ratha Khala During Rath Yatra Chariot Construction

Puri: Puri’s Ratha Khala, the revered workshop where the towering chariots of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Maa Devi Subhadra are constructed ahead of the annual Rath Yatra, will come under round-the-clock CCTV surveillance this year.

Authorities have planned 12 cameras at the site, including two PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom) units capable of rotating, tilting and zooming across wide distances, enabling granular monitoring of the sprawling construction zone. The cameras will be installed temporarily from April 20, coinciding with Akshaya Tritiya when chariot construction traditionally begins and will remain operational through July 15.

Separately, 14 cameras, again including two PTZ units, will be deployed at the Chandan Chakada for the upcoming Chandan Yatra from April 20 to May 10, covering the full 21-day festival during which thousands of devotees gather for the sacred boat procession of the deities.
