Two anti-Social of KBN group arrested by Berhampur Town  Police for attempt to murder, weapon recovered

Berhampur,(18/03/26):In a swift and decisive action, Berhampur Town Police have arrested two key members of an organized criminal group in connection with a violent assault and attempted murder that occurred near Old Christian Street.

The case originated on the evening of March 17, 2026. While on patrolling duty, Berhampur Town PS staff led by ASI G. Sai Kiran received information regarding a violent dispute near Olive Restaurant. Upon arrival, the police found Dinesh Kumar Panda with severe bleeding injuries to his head and waist. The victim was immediately shifted to MKCG MCH for emergency treatment.

Investigation revealed that the attack was a result of previous enmity between the gang leader, Umesh Ratha, and one Sandeep Kumar Sahu (alias Moogly). The accused persons, identified as members of the “KBN Group,” intercepted the victim.

Accused Deba Sahu stabbed the victim with a knife. Leader Umesh Ratha assaulted the victim’s head with an axe. Other associates engaged in physical assault;

Apprehension and Recovery:

Acting on intelligence that the suspects were attempting to flee the district, a police team raided the Gopalpur Junction at 7:00 PM today. Two accused persons were successfully apprehended:

1.. Srikanta Panda@ Jintu (25)  resident of Village- Nalabanta, Patana Sahi, PS-Aska At/Pr. Goilundi, Chanchadapadia Sahi,PS-BN Pur. Berhampur

2. Rajesh Kumar Majhi @ Rinku Majhi @ (38) S/o Niranjana Majhi resident of Industrial Street, Ankuli, PS-BN Pur, Berhampur

During interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime. The weapon of offence (sword/axe) used by the gang leader was recovered from a hidden spot and seized in the presence of independent witnesses.

Legal Action:

A case has been registered under sections 126(2)/118(2)/109/111/296/3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Both arrested individuals have been forwarded to the Hon’ble Court for judicial remand.
