Bhubaneswar,(23/2/26):While Odisha has successfully connected over 96% of its villages to mobile and internet networks, 1,754 villages continue to await digital access. Electronics and Information Technology Minister Dr Mukesh Mahaling shared these figures on Monday.

Responding to a written query from senior Congress MLA Rama Chandra Kadam, the Minister confirmed that 49,422 out of the state’s 51,176 villages now enjoy digital connectivity. Furthermore, broadband services have successfully reached 6,785 of the 6,798 Gram Panchayats in the region.

To bridge the existing digital divide, the government is utilising the BharatNet project. The 13 Gram Panchayats currently lacking standard broadband are being linked through Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) technology.

Dr Mahaling assured the House that the unconnected villages, which fall under these specific panchayats, will soon be brought online via VSAT deployment as part of the broader Digital Bharat initiative.
