Police provided protection for slain advocate Pitabas Panda’s family in Berhampur

Berhampur,(08/11/2025):Nearly a month after the murder of advocate Pitabas Panda, fresh tension has gripped his family as his wife has alleged that she and her son are receiving death threats from unidentified callers.

Police took the step after the deceased’s wife Susmita Panda alleged earlier in the day that they have received threatening calls from unknown persons to withdraw the case.

Police protection has been provided to the family members of slain BJP leader and senior lawyer Pitabas Panda in Odisha’s Berhampur city. Panda’s son had sought in a press meet on Saturday; he reportedly received threat calls from unknown persons recently. 

To know the security arrangement while enquired with local police station an officer said, we have strict instruction from top to deploy four constables and a Havildar  for round-the-clock protection of Panda’s family. They will keep close watch on his house and provide security to family members.

Further, he said they were investigating the threatening call received by his family members.

Notably,Susmita said,”My son received the first call on October 27 and then another call on October 28. The caller abused and threatened us to withdraw the case(?),Stating that the we  in the grip of fear after her husband’s murder.

I, lodged a complaint with police on November 3 about the calls. Purna Chandra Panda, brother of Pitabash, said they had taken the first call lightly. But when the second call came and the caller mentioned one of the accused, who is now lodged in jail, the family felt very threatened.
