Vedanta To Invest Rs.1 Lakh Crore In Odisha’s Dhenkanal For Mega Aluminium Project, Set to Create 40K Jobs
Bhubaneswar: Odisha is set for a major industrial leap as Vedanta Limited announced plans to invest Rs 1 lakh crore in a large-scale aluminium project in Dhenkanal district. The project, designed to produce 30 lakh tonnes of aluminium annually, is set to become one of the state’s biggest industrial undertakings to date.
Vedanta Chairman Anil Agarwal shared details after meeting Chief Minister Mohan Majhi, stating that work would begin within three to four months of land acquisition. The project, expected to be completed in about three to three-and-a-half years, will significantly strengthen Odisha’s manufacturing ecosystem.
According to Agarwal, the mega project will directly employ around 30,000 to 40,000 people, bringing substantial economic activity and livelihood opportunities to Dhenkanal and neighbouring areas. CM Majhi has assured that all necessary clearances and land allocations will be fast-tracked, with formalities likely to conclude within a month.
The state government is also expediting procedures in the Niyamgiri area of Kalahandi district, which could benefit from associated development and employment opportunities tied to Vedanta’s expansion plans.
Separately, Agarwal reiterated Vedanta’s commitment to setting up Vedanta University in Odisha. He said the company would review the Supreme Court’s ruling related to the project and reaffirmed that if established, the university would be located within the state.
