New Delhi: BJP national president JP Nadda has announced key appointments for the party’s upcoming electoral battles in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu.

Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav has been named the election in-charge for West Bengal, which heads to the polls in 2026. He will be assisted by former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, who brings grassroots experience from the northeast and recent campaign exposure in Haryana.

Yadav, a seasoned strategist, has overseen BJP’s campaigns in Bihar (2020), Madhya Pradesh (2023), and Odisha (2024). In 2024, he led the party’s Maharashtra campaign and also won his maiden Lok Sabha election from Alwar, Rajasthan. His appointment signals BJP’s intent to build a long-term narrative in Bengal, where the party aims to challenge the ruling Trinamool Congress. For Tamil Nadu, which goes to the polls in 2026, BJP MP Baijayant Panda has been appointed election in-charge. He will be supported by Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol. The duo faces a complex political landscape dominated by regional giants DMK and AIADMK, with BJP aiming to expand its footprint through alliance-building and targeted messaging.

With these appointments, the BJP is laying the groundwork for high-stakes contests in two politically diverse states.
