Odisha To Set Up New Ayurvedic College In Rairangpur, Announces CM Majhi
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday announced a major push to traditional medicine and Ayurveda with the setting up of a new Ayurvedic college at Rairangpur in Mayurbhanj district at a cost of ₹85 crore.
Speaking at the state-level National Ayurveda Day function in Bhubaneswar, Majhi said the project will be taken up this year with the support of both the Centre and the state.
The Chief Minister also declared that eight new Panchakarma centres will be established across Odisha in 2025. These facilities, which focus on detoxification and rejuvenation therapies, will add to the state’s limited Panchakarma infrastructure. Currently, only one such centre is functional at Kendrapara District Headquarters Hospital, while two others are under construction in Bargarh and Keonjhar.Majhi highlighted Odisha’s existing AYUSH network, which includes three government Ayurvedic colleges, four government homoeopathic colleges and a large number of hospitals serving patients from within and outside the state. The state also operates 1,011 AYUSH dispensaries comprising 620 Ayurvedic, 562 homoeopathic and nine Unani centres catering to both rural and urban populations.
He further informed that under the National AYUSH Mission, integrated AYUSH hospitals are being developed in Dhenkanal, Berhampur and Balasore.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling said more than 2.3 crore patients in Odisha have availed Ayurveda treatment so far this year. “We are committed to ensuring that Ayurveda services reach every corner of the state, from villages to towns,” he added.
