Excise and Intelligence Department busts illegal marijuana smuggling out of state
6 arrested along with 55 kg marijuana, bike, three four-wheelers, 8 mobile phones seized
Brahmapur : The Berhampur Excise and Intelligence Department, under the direct supervision of Deputy Superintendent Smriti Kant Raut, is conducting patrols in various places with many teams. In this regard, while marijuana was being smuggled out of the state from Kandhamal district, a team of the Intelligence Department checked the vehicle near Khallikote Ghati on suspicion. Three people from Bihar and West Bengal, three from Kandhamal area were found to be smuggling marijuana out of the state. Among those arrested, two professional marijuana smugglers from Kandhamal area. Meanwhile, Mr. Raut has informed that he got a clue about the ganja mafia who is smuggling ganja from outside Odisha from the mobile phones seized from the six arrested people. Meanwhile, preliminary investigation has revealed that some ganja mafia from Berhampur and Kodala areas are involved in this and they are also being monitored, Mr. Raut has informed. Dinesh Pradhan (31) of Penapushi village, Kumbarbadi police station, Daringbadi police station, Pappu Bira (30) of Sorda police station, and Rahul Kumar (21) of Bihar have been arrested. 25 kg of ganja along with 25 kg of ganja have been seized from them. Similarly, another vehicle was inspected.
Kandhamal district K. Mohit Mallik (28) of Dimisinga village, Nuagaon police station, Naresh Mandal (24) and Alam Mandal (39) of West Bengal were arrested and 30 kg of ganja was seized from them, along with a Maruti car number OR.02.BQ-0036, a Scooty and D. 02. CV – 28:25 Ju Khallikote Haridamal Chowk. The Excise Department has arrested 6 people in these 2 cases and tried them in court. Sub Inspector Ajit Kumar Nayak and officers and employees of the Excise Department were involved in the investigation.
