Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has directed all departments to fill over 22,800 Group C vacancies across ten key departments by August 31, 2025.

Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja issued the directive on Thursday, underlining the urgency of addressing long-pending staff shortages in critical sectors such as education, health and rural development.

The instruction aims to fast-track recruitment and enhance public service delivery across the state.

As per official figures, the ten departments collectively have 44,909 Group C vacancies, of which 22,896 positions are earmarked for recruitment in the current phase.

The School and Mass Education Department accounts for the highest number of vacancies at 8,358, followed by the Panchayati Raj Department with 4,042 posts and the Health Department, which has 3,677 unfilled positions.

The Chief Secretary has stressed the importance of meeting the recruitment deadline to ensure that the administrative framework remains responsive and efficient.

The intensified hiring drive is expected to significantly reduce the burden on existing personnel and improve the quality of governance at the grassroots.

Officials said the recruitment push aligns with the state government’s broader vision of streamlining governance and strengthening service delivery in sectors that directly impact citizens’ lives.
