Villagers Lynch Man Over Black Magic Fears In Gajapti Dist, 14 Detained
Paralakhemundi: A 35-year-old man was brutally murdered and mutilated by a group of villagers in Malasapadar, Gajapati district, over suspicions of practicing witchcraft.
The horrific incident occurred Saturday night, with police recovering the victim’s body from the Harabhangi Dam on Sunday morning.
According to police, the victim, who had fled to Ganjam district with his family, returned to the village to retrieve his livestock. He was allegedly abducted, throttled to death, and his private parts were severed before his body was dumped.Villagers believed his alleged “black magic” was responsible for a woman’s death two weeks prior. Authorities have detained 14 villagers for questioning as a post-mortem is conducted and further investigation continues into this shocking act of vigilante violence.
