6 Odia Migrant Workers Die in Andhra Quarry Collapse; CM Announces Ex-Gratia
Bhubaneswar: A tragic accident at a granite quarry in Andhra Pradesh’s Bapatla district on Sunday claimed the lives of six migrant workers from Odisha.
The incident occurred at the Satyakrishna Granite Quarry near Ballikurava when a section of the quarry’s edge collapsed, burying several laborers under heavy boulders.
Emergency services and local officials rushed to the scene to launch a rescue operation. While six workers were confirmed dead at the site and ten others sustained critical injuries.
Two of the deceased, Bhaskar Bisoi and Tukuna Dalei, hailed from Gajapati district, while the remaining four are believed to be from Ganjam district.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed his condolences and announced an ex-gratia of Rs four lakh each from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for the families of the victims. Rescue efforts are ongoing as authorities work to locate any remaining trapped individuals.
