Utkal Alumina’s week-long environment awareness program on “Beat Plastic Pollution”

Rayagada (Badal Tah): Utkal Alumina International Limited(UAIL), a unit of Hindalco Industries under the Aditya Birla Group, observed World Environment Day with a gamut of activities and awareness programmes focused on the theme of “Beat Plastic Pollution. The campaign was formally inaugurated on last Monday with a street play performance focusing on environmental protection and harmful effects of plastic pollution. Employees also took a pledge to reduce plastic use, reinforcing their individual and collective commitment towards sustainability.
As a part of the weeklong celebration, the Environment Department of UAIL organized a series of awareness activities aimed at promoting environmental consciousness among employees, students and community in periphery.
The programme began with theme based competitions such as drawing and plantation drives at Aditya Birla Public School to engage school students and cultivate a sense of responsibility toward environment. These activities were held both within the plant premises and in township areas to reach a wider audience.
To commemorate the occasion, a grand awareness rally was held last Friday from CCR building to plantation site. Addressing the participants, Rabi Narayan Mishra, Unit Head, emphasized the importance of environmental protection and urged everyone to reduce plastic usage in their daily lives. He also inaugurated a specially designed awareness Rath, which will continue to spread eco-awareness in nearby communities. Following the rally, a mass plantation drive was conducted in identified areas within the plant premises to promote green environment.
The program was successfully conducted under the supervision of Mr. Subramanyu Kund and Debi Prasad Nayak from the Environment Department. The event witnessed active participation of senior officials including Bijaya Kumura, FH-HR, and Girija Panda, DH-I&E along with other department heads and team members. The environment week campaign will continue till June 10, featuring more events designed to inspire collective action for a cleaner and greener future.
