EDUCATION DEPARTMENT NEGLECTS OLD GOVERNMENT HIGH SCHOOL

DHIRAMOHAN RAY, TALCHER,02-05-2025: Pabitra Mohan Government High School is an oldest educational institution in Kaniha block of Talcher, which is going to celebrate its platinum jubilee this year. The exterior of this educational institution is shiny, But the interior is in a bad state. The post of headmaster is vacant. There is no science and Hindi teacher. The post of peon and night watchman has been vacant for many years. While all these problems are persisting in the school, the number of students is decreasing year by year as no efforts are being made to solve.

Named after freedom fighter and former Deputy Chief Minister Pabitra Mohan Pradhan, this school was established in 1950. The school has a student body of more than 400 from class VI to X.

The post of headmaster has been lying vacant for a long time. There is a science teacher who has been sent on deputation to another school for the past five years, he has not been returned or replaced. The science teacher is drawing salary from Pabitra Mohan High School. Similarly, there are no required teachers in the M.E. section, including a Hindi teacher. There is no peon or night watchman, and the students are deprived of various sports as there is no playground in the school. There is no fence around the school. There is not even a toilet for the students. Teaching in the school is hampered due to lack of teachers.

As a result, the number of students is decreasing, it is being told by the parents. The golden jubilee celebrations of the school were held in the year 2000 with the joint cooperation of the school authorities and the people of Kaniha areas. Former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, former Union Minister Dr. Debendra Pradhan and many other dignitaries attended the golden jubilee celebrations. The platinum jubilee of this school has been decided to be celebrated in November this year.

The Governor, Chief Minister, Union Education Minister and others are scheduled to attend the event. During the previous government, the school was renovated under 5 schemes, but due to lack of necessary infrastructure, students are being deprived of quality education. Ahead of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations, Sukanta Pradhan, President of the Old Students’ Association and Abhinandan Pradhan, President of the Parents’ Association have demanded that various problems prevailing in the school be resolved before the Platinum Jubilee Celebration to be held in the month of November this year
