Odisha Assembly Stalled Amid Ruckus By Congress Over Women’s Safety

Bhubaneswar: Amid uproarious scenes, the proceedings in the Odisha Assembly were disrupted as Congress members created pandemonium alleging that the state witnessed an alarming rise in atrocities against women.
As soon as the House assembled for the day, the Congress legislators were on their feet claiming that crimes against women increased in the state in last few months.
The Congress MLAs staged a protest holding placards and shouting slogans in the well of the House, disrupting the proceedings.
As noisy scenes prevailed in the House, Speaker Surama Padhy repeatedly requested the protesting members to return to their seats, but the latter refused to budge. Finally, the Speaker adjourned the House till 12 noon as no business could be conducted during the question hour
As the House was adjourned, Congress members moved out and staged a sit-in near the Mahatma Gandhi statue on the Assembly premises, holding placards.
