3 Elephants Electrocuted to Death in Trap Laid by Poachers In Sambalpur Forest

Sambalpur: Three wild elephants including a calf were electrocuted to death when they got entangled in an electric trap laid by poachers in the Burmal forest of Sambalpur district on Sunday night.

The poachers had allegedly laid a trap of live electric wire meshes to hunt wild boars and the ill-fated pachyderms came in contact with it.

Villagers discovered the carcasses of the three elephants in the Naktideul Range in Burmal forest in Sambalpur district on Monday morning and informed the forest officials.

Forest officials have reached the spot to start an investigation.

A CCF from the Wildlife headquarters is leading the investigation.

Efforts are on to identify and nab the poachers involved in laying the trap.
