Air pollution in Odisha raises concern, Nayagarh and Cuttack most polluted

Bhubaneswar, : The Air Quality Index (AQI) of Nayagarh and Cuttack was worse than the national capital Delhi.

The AQI was recorded 244 in Nayagarh and 215 in Cuttack while the AQI of Delhi was 140, Noida 135, Navi Mumbai 100, Chennai 79 and Bengaluru 66.

Among other cities and towns of Odisha, the AQI was recorded 206 in Baripada, 194 in Rourkela, 186 in Barbil, 174 in Talcher and 147 in Balasore.

Air pollution in Odisha is in bad shape due to factors such as heavy vehicular movement,rapid industrialization, felling of trees and construction work, alleged enviornmentalists.

Notably, an AQI value of 50 or below represents good air quality and an AQI value over 300 represents hazardous air quality.

Besides, forest fire incidents have been reported at 1947 points in several districts of Odisha. As many as 320 new forest fire points were detected on Sunday.
