BJD MP Bhartruhari Mahtab Quits Party, Likely To Join BJP

Cuttack, (Odishabarta): Senior Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader and Cuttack MP Bhartruhari Mahtab on Friday tendered his resignation from the primary membership of the BJD.

This marks the end of his long-standing association with the party, which he had been a part of since its inception in 1997. Mahtab’s resignation, conveyed through a letter addressed to BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik, underscores his growing disillusionment with the party’s ideological trajectory.

Addressing the press, the six-time MP articulated his sentiments, stating, “With a heavy heart, I have sent my resignation letter to the Chief Minister.” His disillusionment stems from what he perceives as a departure from the party’s original ethos. He lamented the apparent disregard for opinions within the party’s leadership.
Expressing his frustration, Mahtab revealed, “The party has veered off course from its intended path. Despite my efforts to steer it back, I have faced disrespect and disregard.” This perceived lack of alignment prompted his decision to sever ties with the BJD, as he believed remaining within it would impede his ability to effectively serve the state and the nation.

“I have reached a point where I can no longer continue in a party that misinterprets my intentions and fails to value my contributions,” he said.

Speculation is rife regarding Mahtab joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Sources suggest that Mahtab’s exit from the BJD may pave the way for his entry into the BJP ranks, considering his long-standing political experience and ideological alignment. However, Mahtab himself has not confirmed any such move, leaving room for further conjecture and anticipation among political circles.
