Dr.Badal Tah,Odishabarta

Rayagada, October 2: During flagging off of a cyber safety rath in the district headquarters with Minister Jagannath Saraka and MLA Makaranda Muduli, BSKY Advisor Sudhir Das, Ex-MP N Bhaskar Rao, ADM Bhaskar Raito, Vivekananda Sharma, Superintendent of Police, Rayagada said that prevention was the panacea to contain ever increasing cyber crimes in the state. According to him, the police act, 1861 (5 of 1861) in its preamble mentions about police to prevent crimes and reduce the opportunities for the commission of crimes. To prevent theft in the house, a common man locks the gate, doors, almirah, etc. These are simple preventive steps. Likewise these kind of steps should be taken by the public to contain cyber crimes. Of course, the police is always there to act upon stress & duress due to cyber crimes, said Sharma.

“Internet density in Rayagada is increasing day by day. If cyber crime occurs inter district or state, it becomes relatively easier to trace out the perpetrator of the crime; but in this vast digital world, most of the high end cyber crimes are of international nature. The innocent people of the hinterland of this district become the victims of the cyber crime. So this rath carrying IT experts and empathetic police personnel will move all the blocks in sensitizing students, senior citizens and adolescents. This Cyber Safety Rath would fan out across the district and touch all Block Headquarters and Police Stations in the next two weeks. It would be disseminating cyber safety awareness messages through audio, visual and print mode in the local language/dialect.

The mobile team will focus upon the emotional and physical exploitation of young women and girl children in the context of fraudsters blackmailing the videos of women and children.

The awareness will be taken up in both offline and online modes to make the youth aware about the allurement of quick & easy money earning being propagated through fake websites, utubes, etc. Extensive use of social media like twitter, facebook, whasapp, instagram, etc will be used to sensitize the public. We are partnering with several financial institutions, civil society groups, media persons and govt departments to function in a cohesive manner to transform this into a mass campaign.

A couple of online competitions on cyber safety would be held at District level. Charity begins at home. So the participants present here must take the messages of the coveted speakers to their homes”, opined Sharma in the auditorium, which was full with the students, teachers, intelligentia, scribes and other govt departmental staff.

From 3rd October, Workshop/ Quiz Competition on Cyber Safety would be held every day in at least 2 educational institutes in the district.During the course of campaign, a Road Run and Cyclothon would be organized on the morning 8.10.2023 for spreading awareness about cyber safety. A household campaign with cyber safety awareness talk and distribution of cyber safety pamphlets would commence with the active participation of members of Mission Shakti, Anganwadi workers, ASHA Karmis, Red Cross, NGOs etc from 9.10.2023, to make the campaign objective reach the grass roots. An evening walk would be held on 14.10.2023 by senior citizens, women and children to spread the message of Cyber Safety. This Cyber Safety Rath would be moving around the district on a pre-announced route. Enroute Cyber Safety Rath would stop at public places like Markets, Local Haats, Public Offices, Hamlets etc. and play the audio/ video messages of cyber safety.

Saraka, Muduli, Rao & Das emphasized upon lack of awareness in the society regarding various kinds of cybercrime and how to remain safe in the digital world.  They stressed to spread the awareness about Cyber Crimes in the society, among all sections, age group and to educate them about cyber safety. Sri Bishnu Prasad Patra, Additional SP, Rayagada moderated the whole event and extended vote thanks.
