Appeal to observe Martyrs’ week from July 28th to August 3
Rayagada, July 27: July has been a hectic month for the Ultra lefts in Rayagada. They torched nine vehicles belonging to a construction company engaged in building a road in Muniguda and left the place with several warnings through several posters and banners, which were later seized by the local police. Last Tuesday an appeal through a press release was made to join the peoples’ war group. The release depicted the sacrifice of leaders like Charu Mazumdar, Kanhelal Chaterjee and several others, who sacrificed their lives for the working class.
Last Thursday, yet again, posters and banners resurfaced in Niyamagiri Hill’s Parsali village of Kalyansinghpur block, which is known to be the hotbed of Mao corridor. One hand written banner was hung in the gate of newly constructed Dangaria Kandha Development Agency(DKDA). Similar way handwritten posters were put up on tree trunks. The poster raises slogans about the immortality of martyrs like Charu Mazumdar, Kanhelal Chaterjee, Niyamagiri martyr Padma(Minza), Lalit, Ritu, Sandesh,, Kamala, Gita, Anjali & Nandu. Basadhara-Gumusar-Nagavali division of the Maoist outfit has appealed to learn from the sacrifice of the martyrs and their quality & to become Communists in true spirit.
Earlier in June, the Maoists resisted establishment of tourist hub in Niyamagiri and warned the state to keep away from such initiative or else face the wrath. They evn blamed DKDA, OPELIP and few NGOs as the agents of Vedanta Company and asked the public not to support these organisations. They asked the Govt to establish hospitals and schools in stead og tourist centre, which would destroy the culture of the tribals. “In spite of several schematic boastings like OPELIP by the govt, development deficit is order of the day”, said Sri Rasmiranjan Dora, a local tribal & social researcher.
