Berhampur:The Ministry of Education, Govt. of India is organising Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Samagam coinciding with 3rd anniversary of National Education Policy-2020 scheduled to be held on 29th & 30th July 2023 at New Delhi.
The Event is proposed to be inaugurated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister on 29.07.2023 at the Plenary Hall of India Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO), Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. On this occasion, some important initiatives are going to be launched. This event would give an opportunity to discuss, deliberate and share insights on various aspects of NEP 2020 and its implementation.
Since the initiation of the NEP 2020, IISER Berhampur has started integrating the salient features of the policy in its own academic curricular framework.
The basic tenets of the NEP 2020 model are already incorporated in the existing curricular framework of 5-year integrated BS-MS programme. Transdisciplinary credit framework is the novelty of IISER Berhampur curriculum where students could earn credits across different subjects.
For example, a student pursuing Major in Physics may opt for Minor programme in Biology. Similarly, students of Earth and Environmental Sciences opt for Biological Sciences. The existing regulations of the IISER, Berhampur has the major elements of NEP 2020, such as foundation courses for all subjects in the first four semesters, Major and Minor courses comparable to the Discipline Specific Core and Elective courses, Open Electives, Environmental Science and English writing considered in the domain of Ability Enhancement Course (AEC), HSS (Humanities and Social Sciences) courses on communication skill as SEC (Skill Enhancement Course), regular practice of internship/project work as IAPC (Internship / Project/Community Outreach, and Yoga & Physical Education as Value Addition Course (VAC: Value Addition Course). The established credit distribution across the integrated 5-year programme fulfils the basic requirements of the NEP 2020. With the increase in choice of electives and introduction of new core subjects such as Earth and Environmental Sciences during last year, the Institute has expanded the ambit of choice-based credit system which remains the crux of the NEP 2020 curricular framework.
To offer more flexibility in curricular pursuit the Institute has implemented multiple exit plans for the students.
IISER, Berhampur has been also organising various outreach progamme in various schools and colleges in the vicinity on various themes relating to NEP-2020. It also organises webinars on scientific ethics, gender balance and inclusivity. IISER, Berhampur organises hygiene and health camps in neighbouring villages of its permanent campus.
