Bhubaneswar:The Ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Opposition BJP in the State today locked horn in the Capital city over their respective issues to target each other. The BJD took to the street protesting Centre’s decision to deduct 5 kg rice while the saffron party lashed out at the State government over decreasing law and order situation.

The BJD alleged that BJP-led Central government which had promised to double the income of farmers, is actually doing just the opposite. The central government has cut 5 kg of free rice per head of the beneficiaries.

Similarly, it has allocated Rs 20,000 crore less in the budget for paddy procurement.

Hundreds of BJD workers, including senior leaders, staged a protest in front of the Raj Bhavan on Tuesday. A delegation led by party organisational secretary Pranab Prakash Das met Governor and submitted memorandum. The BJD has decided to protest in front of all panchayat offices across the State and the blocks on February 16. If the issue is not resolved in 15 days, the agitation will be intensified, the party warned.

To counter the ruling front in Odisha, the State unit of BJP staged demonstration at various places in Bhubaneswar. BJP workers and leaders staged sit-in at Jayadev Vihar, Palasuni, Khandagiri and Samantarapur chowk, AG Chowk. At many places, the protesting workers and leaders are seen being picked up by the police .

The BJP accused the State government of failing to maintain the law and order situation in the state. The party alleged that involvement of ruling party leaders are seen in most of the criminal incidents.

There have been allegations of involvement of the police as well. The manner in which minister Naba Das was killed has never ever happened in the state, the party said.
