Rayagada, January 26: After a gap of two years due to Corona, this year republic day was celebrated enthusiastically by Rayagada public. After the early morning Ram Dhoon and street parade by several schools, the tri colour flag was unfurled by Collector Ms Swadha Dev Singh as Chief Guest.

She mentioned the future prospects in developing Majhighariani temple, the most important deity of the district, with transfer of six acres of land exchanged from Railways.  She also told about restoring 506 acres of land from Jeypore Sugar Company(JSCo) and assured the public to initiate several pro-people govt projects using that land.

She eulogized the development programmes promulgated by the State & Centre for different categories of beneficiaries like women, tribal, children, Persons with Disabilities, etc. Emphasising on the educational development in the district, she described the progress in 163 smart schools in the entire district and model school in each block along with residential facilities in Anwesha.

Many eminent citizens faced difficulty in entering the venue GCD High School ground because police did not allow. Persons like Dr.K Salvaraju, Ex-Principal of Rayagada Autonomous College, Smt Bidulata Huika, Chairperson of Child Welfare Committee, Rayagada and few others faced difficulty while police obstructed their entry to the venue. Even the local MLA Sri Makaranda Muduli was not spared by police. When some journalists intervened, the situation was at ease. Many important public representatives were also not invited.

The Chief Guest forgot to salute the flag after unfurling. Breaking the protocol, alongwith the Collector, the SP briefly rode the jeep, which was supposed to traverse the field to inspect the parade troupes; but then got down of the jeep after his mistake was pointed out.

The traffic arrangements were faulty as several heavy vehicles were seen passing beside the school children’s street parades.
