CUO Special Lecture on “Indian Ethos in National Education Policy-2020”

Koraput:The Central University of Odisha organized a special lecture on “Indian Ethos in National Education Policy-2020” at its Landiguda Campus on 16 November 2022. The Vice Chancellor of CUO Prof. Dr. Chakradhar Tripathi presided over the meeting. The Special lecture was delivered by Prof. Baldeo Bhai Sharma, Vice Chancellor, Kushabhau Thakre University of Journalism & Mass Communication, Raipur. Prof. Siba Prasad Adhikary, former Vice Chancellor, FM University, Balasore was the guest of honour.
Prof. Tripathi, in his speech, stressed the need for education in human development. He opined that education is the light of society. He praised the Indian traditional education system where character building was given more importance than career building. Upholding cultural values is very important for the growth of education, he said. Strengthening education will make India strong.
He also stressed the need for studying the freedom fighters of Odisha like Gopabandhu Das in our curricula as compulsory subjects. He hoped the students of Central University of Odisha can change the future of Odisha and make the state one of the best states in the world.
Prof. Sharma, in his speech, gave a brief summary of the National Education Policy 2020 and highlighted the key areas of the Policy. He opined that India has a rich history of advanced education, but due to British tyranny, everything destabilized. He urged the students to follow the rich Indian culture instead of following western culture and western patterns of education blindly. The Indian education system is fit for Indian people and the new policy will enhance the Indian values system, he added. Education should teach us how to be good human beings, instead of being highly salaried people.
Prof. Adhikary briefly highlighted the technical aspects of the National Education Policy and also talked about its impact on the students of Odisha. The new policy will boost primary education which will robust the total education system, he added. The central institutions like the Central University of Odisha are the harbingers of carrying the new policy forward.
Dr. Pradosh Kumar Rath, Head I/c, Journalism & Mass Communication delivered the welcome note and Dr. Phagunath Bhoi, PRO proposed the vote of thanks. Also present on the occasion were Prof. Sharat Kumar Palita, Dean, School of Biodiversity; Dr. Jayanta Kumar Nayak, Controller of Examinations I/c; Dr. Ramendra Kumar Parhi, Dean Students’ Welfare; Shri Sanjeet Kumar Das, HoD I/c. English and NSS Programme Coordinator; faculty members, research scholars, staff and students of the University.
The meeting was followed by a cultural programme led by Cultural Coordinators Dr. Kakoli Banerjee and Dr. Rudrani Mohanty.
