MANY PEOPLE ARRESTED FOR ALLEGEDLY GAMBLING IN GANJAM DISTRICT

Berhampur/Ganjam:Many people were arrested for allegedly gambling and lakh in cash was seized last 20 days ahead of the Kumar Purnima in Ganjam and Berhampur police district.
Notably,Ganjam district consists of two police districts Berhampur and Ganjam in Odisha.
In Ganjam police district in the last 10 days 882 gamblers were arrested and Rs 27,29, 240/-lakh cash seized against 162 cases registered at different Police stations in massive raids at numerous gambling dens across the Ganjam police district.
Similarly,in Berhmapur police district in last 20 days 299 gamblers were arrested and Rs 20,07,561/-lakh cash seized against 44 cases registered at different Police stations in massive raids under Berhampur district.
In a joint statement Mr Brijesh Rai,SP,Ganjam and Dr.Saravana Vivek,M,SP,Berhampur said, we will not allow the people to indulge in unlawful activities in the name of tradition and their drive to clearout on gambling would continue even after Kumar Purnima.
Many consider gambling as a tradition from Dasahera to Kumar Purnima, have impression that,this is one of the most popular festivals in Ganjam revenue district in Odisha.
