RAILWAYS EARNING RUPEES NINE THOUSAND CRORES IN THREE YEARS
Bureau,Odishabarta
Delhi: Railways earning rupees 9000 Crs in three years from ticket-cancellation and non-cancellation of wait-listed tickets may include government-funds also.
It refers to RTI response by The Centre for Railway Information System (CRIS) that Indian Railways made huge extra revenue-earning of rupees 9000 crores by way of ticket-cancellation and non-cancellation of wait-listed tickets in three years from 01.01.2017 till 31.12.2020. About half of this amount was due to non-cancellation of wait-listed tickets. But this amount must also be inclusive of the amount paid by Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha secretariats because Parliamentarians usually make multiple bookings for first-class air-conditioned travel in different trains for a single journey without caring to cancel rest of the bookings, reason being that Parliamentarians do not have to pay for un-availed journey on confirmed reservations.
System should be that MPs should be reimbursed for rail-travel only on submitting proof of actual rail-travel verified by the TTEs to avoid multiple reservations in different trains for a single journey. Cost of un-availed reserved rail-berths or seats should be deducted from their salaries or pensions. Free entitlement of rail-travel including for Parliamentarians and those travelling at government-expense including for those in public-sector-undertakings should only be for two-tier air-conditioned rail-travel rather than for first-class air-conditioned class or above.
