POLICE RAID SHOPS SELLING MODIFIED BIKE SILENCERS

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police raided several automobile shops selling modified noise silencers which are preferred by some youngsters driving high-end motorbikes in Bhubaneswar. Several modified silencers were seized during the raids on shops in Khandagiri and Cuttack Road on Tuesday by six teams of Commissionerate Police.

The crackdown was launched to keep a check on rising noise pollution in view of several people using modified bike silencers during campaigning for Urban Local Body elections.

Several spare parts stores, showrooms and garages were raided in different parts of the city, Commissionerate Police officials said. “The use of modified silencers has increased the level of noise pollution. Under the Motor Vehicles Act, vehicles cannot be modified without the necessary permission from the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) concerned,” a police official said.
