People voted for good governance, Yogi

Lucknow: With the BJP’s splendid performance in Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is all set to achieve the maiden feat of an incumbent returning to power in the State after serving a full term. Addressing party workers at the BJP office in Lucknow, Adityanath said the people have voted for nationalism and good governance.
As per the latest reports, the BJP either has won or is leading in 269 of the total 403 seats, 53 less than its 2017 tally. The party is appeared to have garnered more votes than in 2017 but has not been able to match its 2017 seat tally due to a consolidation of Opposition votes in favour of Samajwadi Party, which received more seats as against in 2017 but still fell far short of the ruling party.

“People have buried politics of caste and religion by ensuring victory of the BJP in Uttar Pradesh,” the Chief Minister said, adding that the party and its allies Apna Dal (S) and Nishad Party registered the victory under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Despite the Opposition’s misleading campaign over the last 2-3 days, people ensured victory of the BJP-led alliance,” Adityanath said.

He, however, stressed on the need to stay focused. “Amid the fervour, we have to stay focused…When we were fighting Covid-19, they (Opposition) were conspiring against us. By making us win, people have once again voted for nationalism, good governance. It’s our responsibility to continue working on these issues,” the Chief Minister said.

“Everyone had their eyes on UP, given the vastness of the State. I am thankful to the people for making us win with majority,” he said.
