Farmer Commits Suicide After Rain Damages Crops in Ganjam

Berhampur: A farmer in Ganjam district allegedly committed suicide by consuming pesticides. The deceased, identified as Kailash Sabar, of Turubudi village under Patrapur block of the district, took such extreme step over crop loss due to rainfall caused by Cyclone Jawad.
According to reports, Kailash, had cultivated paddy, tomatoes, brinjals on three acres of agricultural land of T Nameswar Patra. However, heavy rain damaged his standing crops. Worries and depressed, Kailash consumed pesticides.
Though his family members rescued Kailash and rushed him to the Patrapur Community Health Centre, he was received dead decalre by the doctor.
Cyclone Jawad had reached near Odisha coast near Puri on Sunday noon and moved towards the West Bengal coast. Under the impact of the storm, several coastal districts in the State experienced heavy rainfall.
