Portability of landline-numbers required in view of ever-deteriorating MTNL-services

Bureau,Odishabarta

New Delhi:Landline telephone-service provided in Delhi by Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) has badly deteriorated with MTNL services badly disrupted and many telephone-lines lying disconnected for long time with no one attending to complaints. Many telephone-lines are lying disconnected because of non-receipt of telephone-bills either in hard copy or through email.

Personal visit to some offices and telephone-exchanges of MTNL (like Delhi Gate) reveals most inadequate maintenance which is even health-hazard for MTNL employees working there. This is also a reason for deterioration of MTNL landline telephone-services.

If MTNL practically cannot improve its services and billing, then Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) should urgently allow portability of landline-numbers on lines of mobile-phone services, also because many MTNL landline-numbers relate to customer services provided by private bodies and ang change in landline-number may cause problem for consumers at large availing customer services.
