Nandanik felicitates Prateek Pattanaik with Asim Basu Award 2021 on its 7th Foundation Day

Koraput:Nandanik, a theatre group based in are engaged in the creation and promotion of Theatre Arts in the Koraput region since 2014. Since 2018, Nandanik started awarding the Asim Basu Memorial Award in association with the Asim Basu Foundation, Bhubaneswar on 1st August, which happens to be the Foundation Day of Nandanik. The award is dedicated to the memory of Sj. Asim Basu, a theatre legend from Odisha. The purpose of the award is to honour and encourage young minds of KBK region to engage in arts, specifically in Theatre.

In a virtual ceremony today the 4th Asim Basu Award was presented to Prateek Patnaik, a young college student from Koraput, who is doing great research work on culture of Odisha and preservation of its cultural heritage. The award was presented by Mrs Bhaswati Basu, eminent actress of Odia stage, tv and films and daughter of Sj. Asim Basu. Mrs Basu reminisced about the ideals, hard work and dedication of her Father for Theatre and extended her best wishes to Prateek. She also congratulated Nandanik for the endeavor.

Mrs Pallabi Mohapatra, mother of Prateek, explained the challenges faced by her to encourage her son to take up his passion for arts inspite of heavy pressure of studies.

Prateek Pattanaik, the awardee, described the various types of arts and artists of various regions of Odisha whom he interviewed, observed and recorded for his research work especially the Prahlad Nataka of Ganjam. He also sang a folk song in his beautiful voice.

The programme was presided over by Dr Sourav Gupta, Creative Director of Nandanik. It was conducted by Shri Saumendra Kr Swain, Treasurer, Nandanik and coordinated by Mrs Monideepa Gupta, Secretary, Nandanik. The virtual programme was streamed on Facebook and viewed by 689 people.
