Thunderstorm Blows of Evicted Slum-Dwellers at in Cuttack

Cuttack: Tension prevailed in Nuapada-Balisahi area of Cuttack after tents housing the evicted slum-dwellers were blown away by thunderstorm which battered the city on Tuesday afternoon. Several persons sustained injuries when the tents got uprooted under the impact of the storm.
Slum-dwellers, who were evicted from Ranihat area for SCB road expansion work, were sheltered in these tents by the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC).

Following the incident, the irate slum-dwellers damaged the vehicles belonging to the police and CMC officials. They also pelted stones at CMC and police officials. However, normalcy returned in the area after 10 platoons of policemen were rushed to the spot to maintain law and order.
A thunderstorm followed by heavy rain lashed the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack on Tuesday noon. The storm led to disruption of power supply in Cuttack. Several areas in the city were also inundated. Trees got uprooted along the Ring Road.
