A three-day International Conference on ‘The Importance of Sanskrit in India and Abroad’ was organized by the Sanskrit Department, Central University of Odisha, Koraput from 17-19 March 2023 in the University campus at Sunabeda was concluded with the valedictory programme on 19.03.2023.
The Honorable Vice-Chancellor of the University Prof. Chakradhar Tripathi presided over the program. He highlighted the value of the Sanskrit language in traditional as well as modern society. He said “teacher represents society; man can develop only through the Indian tradition of knowledge. And that teacher can make the name meaningful when his conduct aligns with the policy sentences. The means of making a human being a human being lies only in Sanskrit. This type of unique knowledge tradition which is practical and is the ultimate means in the creation of man must be followed”.
Prof. N. C. Panda, Dean, School of Languages and HoD, Dept. of Sanskrit delivered the welcome address.
He highlighted the usefulness of Sanskrit and said that knowledge and science are contained in Sanskrit and need to be presented to the people through research by the youth. It should be an experimental study.
Scholars from India and abroad attended this conference, including renowned scholar Prof. Chirapat Prapandvidya, Adviser, Silpakorn University, Thailand; Prof. Prafulla Kumar Mishra Vice Chairman, MSRVVP; Prof. Rabindra Kumar Panda, Vice-Chancellor, SJSU, Puri; Prof. Dipti Tripathi, President, IASS; Dr. Fillip Rucinski; Prof. Sadananda Dixit, CSU, Puri; Prof. Sombat Manmeesuksiri, Thailand; Dr. Nirajan Sahu, Ajmer; Prof. Aurn Ranjan Mishra, VBU, W.B.; Prof. Kashinath Neopane Nepal; Prof. Kashinath Neupane, Nepal; REV. Dr. Wadingal Pannaloka Thero, Srilanka; Prof. Aurn Ranjan Mishra, Viswa Vharti, W.B; Prof. Do.Thu.Ha, Vietnam; Prof. Dharmendra Singhdev, Prof. Niranjan Mishra, Prof. Sachchidanand Mohapatra, etc. presented original research papers on the subject.More than 90 selected research papers were presented at the conference.
From the inaugural session to the concluding session, papers were presented in nine sessions and the souvenir of the conference was released. In the cultural session of the conference, Krishnakutuhalam drama was staged and local dances like Sambalpuri, Dhemsa, Jhumar, Bharatnatyam, etc. were also performed. The program was coordinated by Dr. Chakrapani Pokhel and Dr. Srinivasa Swai and the vote of thanks was done by Dr. Aditya Narayan Dash and Dr. Virendra Kumar Shadangi.
Along with the faculty members, research scholars and students Dr. Sudhendu Mandal, Prof. Himansu Mohapatra, Dr. Alok Baral, Dr. Pradosh Swain, Dr. Sanjit Das, Dr. Kokila Banerjee, Dr. Saurabh Gupta, Dr. Dharmendra Singhdev, Dr. Phagunath Bhoi were present on this occasion.
