3 Women Returning from Jagannath Temple Harassed in Puri; 2 Arrested
Puri: Three women returning from the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri were allegedly harassed and subjected to an attempted robbery by a group of youths on Monday evening near Samanga Parking Road. The incident occurred around 7.30 pm as the women walked along a deserted path towards Kanthapura village after offering prayers at the temple. According to a complaint lodged at Puri Sadar Police Station, four to five youths on two bikes blocked their path, made objectionable remarks, and attempted to snatch their dupattas, vanity bag, and a gold chain. The victims stated the assailants had been tracking them for several days.Hearing the women’s cries, local residents, including the brother of one victim, rushed to the spot. They managed to apprehend two of the accused, while the others fled. The apprehended suspects were handed over to the police upon arrival.
Police have registered a case and the two accused are currently being interrogated. Police have launched a search operation for the absconding youths, reportedly from the Brahmagiri area, and assured that security in the area will be tightened.
