1st Case Registered Under New Criminal Laws in Odisha in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Following the implementation of new criminal laws across the country on Monday, the Bhubaneswar Commissionerate police registered the first case under the new law.

This first case was registered at the Lakshmi Sagar Police Station in Bhubaneswar. It was an attempt to murder case filed under section 126 (2), 115 (2), 109, 118 (1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh also informed the media that the second case has also been also been registered at the Khandagiri police station under the new criminal law.

The three new criminal laws – Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam were implemented nationwide on Monday replacing the colonial-era Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure, and the Indian Evidence Act, respectively.
