A memorandum was submitted by Talcher Dist. Kriyanusthan Committee to the Chief Minister through Sub Collector for declaration of Talcher as a district.
Talcher: The action committee has announced that Talcher will be closed for 12 hours on June 7 with the demand of declaring Talcher as a special district.
The people of Talcher have been repeatedly agitating for the district since 1993. Biju Patnaik, former chief minister of Odisha, promised the people of Talcher to make Talcher the 31st district. Now that the state government has started the process of forming a new district, the people of Talcher have been peacefully sitting in front of the sub collector’s office for more than180 days, demanding a separate district for Talcher.
As it produces the largest amount of coal and electricity in the country Both governments State and Central are getting huge revenue from Talcher. However, Talcher is the most polluted and hot area, while education, health, drinking water facilities are not properly maintained, transportation and environment have not been improved here. Areas like Pallahara, Parjang, Kankadahad Improvements have not been done properly. If Pallahara, Parjang, Kankadahad and other areas are included in Talcher as a district, these areas will be improved. This is because the government has not declared Talcher as a district while the peaceful protest has been going on.
In protest, the committee has informed in writing that a 12-hour strike will be held at Talcher on June 7. It has been informed to State Revenue Minister, Dhenkanal MP, Talcher MLA, Palallhara MLA, Parjang MLA, S. P. Angul District , MCL CMD, Khurda DRM. While presenting the memorandum, the Action Committee was headed by Chaitanya Pradhan, Prafulla Naik, Vijay Kumar Mishra, Virendra Khandual, Satya Mohapatra, Harekrishna Mohapatra, Ranjit Mohapatra, Naren Singh, Saroj Das, Balaram Kund, Keshab Bhutia, Gagan Bihari Das, Padma Charan Samal, Sanjit Naik, Vinod Lal.
