Report;Badal Tah,Odishabarta

Rayagada, December 23: After the district inaugural function of “Chaiti”, the most popular community festival of Rayagada district, at Chatikona near Bissam Cuttack, the spirit of this cultural extravaganza spread like wildfire in the entire district. Led Smt.Guha Punam Tapas Kumar, IAS, Collector-cum-Chairperson of the District Cultural Council with a team of committed officers like PA-ITDA-Rayagada, Executive Officer, Rayagada Municipality, Sub-Collector-Rayagada and other senior bureaucrats and eminent local citizens, this long awaited event was celebrated with pomp & ceremony and local fervourin all the blocks of Rayagada. With Guha’s efforts, “Idital”- a similar cultural jamboree for three days showcased the local traditional talents, art and crafts in Gunupur Sub-division. The process got revived in Kalyan Singhpur block after a local boost initiated by Guha.

“The face of Chaiti is a week long sports activities as a warm-up measure prior to Chaiti. This also opens up a vista for the local talents in sports like marathon for men & women, badminton for men and women, volley ball, kabaddi, etc. We are equally gender sensitive by organizing cycle race for girls exclusively, transgender sensitive by organizing kabaddi for them and differently abled friendly by organizing tri-cycle race for the dibyangs. Baby shows and ghumar dance for married women, friendly matches between scribes, advocates, police force, body building competition, etc are also included. Giving emphasis to the local culture like tribal dance forms ghumura, dhemsa and other folk tribal amusements of Lanjia Sauras & Dangaria Kandhas, traditional cultures from the neighbouring districts and states will be synthesized in this event to make it more harmonious and a learning platform from all”, said Guha.

As Rayagada district is completing its silver jubilee, Guha has been able to organize a congregation of tribal leaders, educationists, local denizens and bureaucrats to reflect upon the achievements and expectations. "This will certainly create a niche of development paradigm for future Rayagada", said Sri Gopinath Sahu, the octogenerian social worker.

The district level Chaiti and Palishree Mela will commence from 26 December for five days in GCD high school ground.
