Cuttack,20/07/2017:The Special Drive of State Vigilance has been initiated with a noble objective to contain and minimize corrupt practices in the rural housing schemes so that the poor beneficiaries get full benefit of such schemes and also to have a deterrent effect on the corrupt public servants. Soon after initiation of special drive by the State Vigilance against the public servants relating to corrupt practices in allotment of houses under rural housing schemes, we have been receiving a volume of good feedback from the general public through toll free number, e-mail, face book and twitter of the Vigilance Organization.  In order to have further deterrent effect and initiation of instant action and also to raise public awareness, 07 land line telephones have been dedicated in different Vigilance Divisions including Vigilance Directorate, which are in operation from 08.00 A.M to 08.00 P.M. The telephone numbers dedicated for the purpose at different Vigilance Divisions are :

The main objective of dedicated telephones in different Vigilance Division is to receive information from the beneficiaries and general public especially regarding demand of bribe by the public servants/private persons for allotment of houses, issuance of work order and making of payments to the beneficiaries on installment basis, so that a trap can be laid against the persons concerned. 

In the ongoing special drive conducted by the State Vigilance against the alleged corrupt practices in the rural housing schemes, so far, as many as 37 cases have been registered, which include 08 cases of Sambalpur Vigilance Division, 07 cases of Berhampur Division, 06 cases each of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack Division and 05 cases each of Balasore and Koraput Division. In these cases, 42 Panchayat Executive Officers, 04 Gram Panchayat Technical Assistants, 04 Junior Engineers, 01 S.I of School, 01 Progressive Assistant and 02 Welfare Extension Officers have been named as accused in the FIRs for misappropriation of govt. funds, the estimated amount of which comes to Rs.86 lakhs approximately. Further, we have initiated 76 open enquiries, 48 secret verifications, conducted 45 petitions enquiries and 196 surprise checks. 

As on date, vigilance has conducted enquiries/ verifications in as many as 402 instances, which spreads to all the districts of Odisha.  The districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Khurda, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Ganjam, Phulbani, Cuttack, Jajpur and Kendrapara are the leading ones in the enquiry conducted by the vigilance so far. 

As regards the irregularities that come to notice in course of enquiry and verification, the Vigilance Officials have been advised by the Director, Vigilance to refer the same to the concerned Collector and PD, DRDA for undertaking necessary internal enquiry and appropriate departmental action at their end.
