Acid attack-Case Re Opened accuse arrested




Jagatsinghpur,26/11/17:In a major success  of Odisha police,Jagatsinghpur  Sunday  arrested the main accused Santosh Kumar Bedanta (36) of the gruesome and inhumane case of acid throwing  case which took place  in 2009 vide the Tirtol case No- 79/2009. The victim of this horrifying case Pramodini @ Sinu had sustained severe loss of eyesight .She was under treatment for years.


The co-accused BIswajit Dalsinghroy @ Anil who was driving the motorcycle and assisted the accused in purchase of acid and execution of acid attack also arrested last night from Champagada PS Ranpur in Nayagarh district. The Motorcycle has also been seized.


 This case was closed in 2012 citing “NO CLUE”. However, District Police, Jagatsinghpur after getting concrete intelligence and evidence in August 2017, made prayer to Honable’Court to reopen the case. The Court was pleased and orders to reopen the case. Investigating officer of this case also made another prayer for Non-Bailable warrant against accused. However, the application was granted by the Court of SDJM, Jagatsinghpur.


The main accused Santosh Kumar Bedanta is basically from Village Joragdia, Bhadrak district. He is a Soldier in Indian army was currently posted   in Kupwada district Jammu & Kashmir.


Recently a team of Jagatsinghpur visited Srinagar and Kupwada to arrest the accused but he had already left the Kashmir by the time police reached there the accuse fled from spot. In this context, Police suspecting probably for the reason of Media coverage (?). 


Jagatsinghpur kept tracking the accused and finally he was caught hiding in Kolkota. He has brought to Odisha today and after the interrogation recovery the Bike used during the crime and formally arrested. He will be produced before the court today only said. Police will seek at least 5 days on remand the accused.


Jagatsinghpur police was in proper touch with Army officials, Jammu and Kashmir Police and Kolkata Police told by a senior police officer.
