7-day police custody for BJD councillor murder accused


Chatrapur,(Ganjam),30/10/17):The Ganjam police will take the two arrested, including Krushna Chandra Nayak, the main conspirator of the high profile Chhatrapur BJD Councillor Laxmidatta Pradhan murder case in a seven-day remand from October 31.


Nayak, who joined BJP recently and his closed aide Duryodhan Reddy was produced before the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court on Saturday after being arrested from Uttarakhand by a special squad of Ganjam police.


The court has granted the police to take the two in seven days remand. Police will interrogate the two to elicit more information into the murder.


On the other hand, Nayak in a video claimed that BJP State unit spokesperson Golak Mohapatra helped him fleeing from the State to avoid arrest.


“We take shelter in Cuttack for a few days after the murder incident. Then we moved to Kolkata for some 10-12 days and then contacted Golak Bhaina. He asked us to directly go to Dehradun and stay in a guest house,” told Nayak in the video.


However, the allegation on Mohapatra was refuted by the State BJP unit. BJP spokesperson Sajjan Sharma said the allegations are baseless and fabricated.


“It is a conspiracy by the ruling party,” said Sharma.


Earlier, 15 accused were arrested in phases by the police in connection with the broad daylight murder, which had created a sensation in the State. Of the 15 arrested persons, while four were nabbed from Kharagpur by a three-member special police team and four were nabbed from the State.


Notably, Pradhan was brutally hacked to death outside his house at Chhatrapur on September 16 over previous rivalry.
