Bhubaneswar, February 18, 2017. Eminent educationist , poet, social activist Prof. Chndraprava Patnaik left for her heavenly abode on Friday , 17th February  at KIMS Hospital, Bhubnaeswar. Though she was ailing for past few months , end came to her because of massive cardiac arrest. She left behind her husband Prasanta Patnaik a well known journalist and Editor of Sanchar daily, two sons Partha and Subrat , daughter-in-laws Rashmi and Sarita , grand sona Ayush and Sidhant. Her both daughters Padnmaja and Puspaja along with son-in-laws Venkatesh and Bikram as well as grand sons Viveck, Rahul and grand daughter Manisha were present. She was 73.

As soon as the news about her sad demise spread , hundreds of her students, relations, admirers and political activists gathered around to pay their homage and have her darshan. Her body was cremated at Swargadwar, Puri . Eldest son Partha gave “mukhagni” in presence of a large number of nearer and dearer ones.

Chandraprava was the second daughter of well known freedom fighter , woman activist Saraswoti Devi and social activist Ramesh Chndra Mohanty of Puri. She was very much patriotic from her  student days and was jailed for participating in the seema andolan in 1964. Acharya Harihar had interfered to release her and others arrested in connection with the agitation.

Her marriage in a freedom-fighter family encouraged her to continue her activities. She was married to Prasanta Patnaik, eldest son of eminent freedom fighter Raghunath Patnaik and smt. Harabala Patnaik of Olasingh in Khurda district. Raghunath Patnaik was one of the founder member of Communist Party in the State under leadership  of Bhagabati Panigrahi. Leftist leaders like Manmohan Mishra, Guru Chanarn Patnaik, Ananta Patnaik, Baishnab Charan Patnaik,Pranatha Patnaik, Gangadhar Paikray, Mohan Dash, Baidyabath Rath etc. were her colleagues in the left movement. Chandraprava got ample encouragement from her in-laws as well as journalist husband to carry on social activities until she joined Kamala Nehru Women’s College, Bhubaneswar. As a teacher she was source of inspiration and encouragement to the students. Hearing about her sad demise Jyostna Mishra, one of her students living in U.S.A. and Australia broke down and said, “ she was a mother to all of us and was not only teaching us well, she was also inspiring us for various constructive activities and was giving us protection”.

Chandraprava was an ardent devotee of Siridi Sai Baba. On hearing about her sad demise in a message to Prasanta Patnaik , Guruji wrote ,”my sad condolences to you and all members of the bereaved family. Your love for her was unfathomable as you tried your very best to save her. Hope God gives you strength to get over the sorrow . I am with you. May Shri Sai bless you.”

Dr, Prasant Sahoo, Cardiologist and Director Catha Lab of  Apollo  Hospital , in a message said. “extremely sad to hear the news. Me and my family members express our condolences un her untimely demise, Madam CHANDRAPRAVA was very respectful  and my association with her as a treating doctor for her cardiac ailments was like my mother .In the last days of suffering I feel guilty I could not give her a visit.”

Gopal Mohapatra, Editor Prameya, Rabi Kanungo . Editor Suryaprava, Jaysis Ray , editor Sambad Kalika, Sampad Mohapatra, Editor Nitidin, Prafulla Das of Hindu , Rabi Das, Ramesh Mohanty, Sulochana Das, Tridev Mohanty,Kedar Mishra and many more media persons have conveyed their condolences also.

Former Chief Ministers Hemananda Biswal,Giridhar Gomang, former minister and senior BJP leader Bijoy Mohapatra, also have expressed their condolences.
