Jajpur,02/09/18:The small village of Gopalapur in Jajpur district has been in news ever since the village girl Dutee Chand (22) won two silver medals in 100 and 200 meter race in the 18th Asian Games in Jakarta.
The state government has announced to give Dutee three corer rupees for her winning two medals. But the parents of Dutee are not in a mood to leave their traditional weaving work despite raining of money on their daughter.
“Despite the success of our daughter, we will not leave traditional weaving work. We have been weaving silk saris and towels since long. Weaving is our profession. Each day we weave around three to four hours. We get pleasure by weaving,“said,Chakradhar,the father of Dutee.
“We provided food, clothes and education to all my five daughters and a son by earning money as weavers. We faced many hard times in the past. Now our financial condition is good. We are extremely happy after knowing that the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik granted three corers of rupees to Dutee for her achievement . It is a huge amount for us “, said Aakhuji (57) the mother of Dutee while weaving a sari in her house.
Prafulla Chandra Ghadai, former finance minister, recalled Dutee’s hard work and said she rose to her present position by strong determination and conviction.
“Dutee is a self-made, she rose to her present position because of her hard work. I thank Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for sanctioning Rs 3 corer to Dutee for her accomplishment,” said Mr Ghadai.
ROURKELA,31/08/18:One of the premier Sports organizations, Panposh Sports Association has celebrated National Sports Day near Hockey Chawk, Panposh. As everybody knows, National Sports Day is celebrated in India to pay respect to the legendary Hockey Player, Dhyan Chand who was born on this date. Sundergarh has been contributing hockey players to National team since last 2 decades. Biswaranja Rath, Tahasildar was the Chief Guest of the event and garlanded in the photo of legendary Dhyan Chand. The chawk was decorated with flowers and many sports person and sports lovers have participated this occasion. Among other guests and sports personnel who present there were Susanta Behera, Sub-Collector, Arabinda Patra, renowned Kabaddi referee, Silver Toppo, Hockey Coach, Milton Belung, of Pansposh Sports Hostel, Hockey coach Nabin Majhi. This exclusive occasion was celebrated with all joy and many senior sports persons from Pansposh Sports Associations have participated and they were Bikram Swain, Working President, General Secretary, Susanta Behera, Organizing Secretary, Rup Narayan Singh, Mahesh Rajgandh, Chini Monika and Kanyakumari Samal. Members of Odisha Police and various sports organizations have also participated this event.

ROURKELA,27/08/18:Neeraj Chopra the flag bearer in this 18th Asian Games clinched the Gold medal after throwing 88.06 meter in Javelin which was a masculine effort, defeated others with a long distance. With this, he has broken his own record of 87.43 meter; a splendid job is done by any Indian athlete in track and field event. His first throw was 83.46 meter and continuously threw more than 82 meter excepting two attempts which went wrong. None other competitor came his closest. He has been performing very well in International javelin events. He also won a Gold medal in recently concluded Common Wealth Games with a throw of 86.47 meter. Before the event kick started, he was the favorite one for the crowd. He has shown tremendous patience and confidence which brought him this glory. After winning the event, in a conversation, he dedicated this medal to Atal Bihari Vajpayee to whom he respects the most. His achievement today was the cherry on the cake. There were other participants who won medals Sunday onwards and they are Dutee Chand (Silver medal in 100 meter for women),Hima Das (Silver Medal in 400 meter), Muhammed Anas (Silver Medals in 400 meter), Tajinderpal Singh Toor (Gold Medal in Shot Put), Dharun Ayyasamy (Mens400m Hurdles), Sudha Singh (Women’s 3000m Steeplechase)and Neena Varakil (Women’s Long Jump).
Neeraj Chopra after winning the Gold Medal, was congratulated by our Prime Minster, Narendra Modi through his Twitter account. Many veteran sports players have also congratulated him on this achievement and wished him a better luck ahead. Now he has become the young icon for many young budding athletes in the country. In his reaction he said he had worked hard for this and finally it paid him nicely. Great things come with great determination.
RORUKELA,26/08/18:The odia athlete, Dutee Chand who is a well known name in track and field events in India has won Silver medal in the prestigious Asian Games, 2018 event in 100 meter race (sprint)event which is the most sought event among all other Athletic events. This laurel what she has brought make us feel proud that a girl from an average background despite all odd, managed to win a medal in an International event. In the race last evening she timed 11.32 seconds, a tad below her own National record she had set for 11.29 seconds. This prestigious medal has come in 100M event after 20 years. She was running in lane number 7 and stood second after Odiong Edidiong of Baharain who timed 11.30 seconds. The event was so competitive that all three medal winners ran for a second difference from each other. All credit goes to Dutee the way she has struggled and now got this glory. Recently Dutee was left outside the purview of hyperandrogenism policy which was a great mental relief to her to pursue her career ahead. Earlier she fought to win a gender case against the International Federation at the Court of Arbitration for Sports. Anyway this achievement has taken away all her pain what she carried over these years. All senior Athletes from India including Sports Association and Naveen Patanik,CM of Odisha have congratulated her on this achievement.
Bhubaneswar,26/08/18:Sohini S Mohanty from Odisha won the double crown by winning both singles & doubles title of Girls U14 event in Championship Series(CS7) tennis tournament at Karnal, Haryana.
In the singles final she defeated second seed Maitreyi Phogat from Chandigarh by 6-2,7-6(5).Earlier in the semi-final she defeated top seed Angelina Singh(HR) by 6-1,6-1.,and in GU14 doubles final partnering with Divya Ungrish defeated Tamanna Narwal(CH) & partner Maitreyi Phogat(CH) by 6-4,2-6,(10-8).But in Girls U12 singles final she lost to second seed Maitreyi Phogat(CH) by 5-7,4-6.All the finals were played on Friday(24.08.18).

In the process 75, 50 and 25 days will be displayed in a beautiful way in Panposh Hockey Hostel. This has revealed by Chief Coach Birkram Swain of Panposh Sports Hostel and working president of Panposh Sports Association one of the leading sports organizations of the districts. This sports organization has been organizing national level hockey tournament for women in Rourkela and by doing this many sports talents have proved their mettle in the game of Hockey.
Bhubaneswar,20/08/18: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik congratulated wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia for winning gold medals for India in the ongoing 18th Asian Games in Jakarta of Indonesia.
Vinesh won a gold medal in the 50kg women’s freestyle event, India’s first-ever gold in women’s wrestling, on the second day of the Asian Games 2018 on Monday.
Similarly, Bajrang Punia gave India its first gold medal at the 18th edition of Asian Games with an 11-8 victory over Japan’s Takatani Daichi in the men’s freestyle 65 kg final on Sunday.
Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter Patnaik wrote, “Congratulations Phogat Vinesh and Bajrang Punia for Wrestling your way to Gold for India. You have made India proud. My best wishes to all members of the Indian contingent for #AsianGames2018. Keep up the winning spirit.”
Apart from the gold medals, Deepak Kumar and Lakshay Sheoran of India won silver medals in Men’s 10m Air Rifle and Men’s Trap Singles events respectively. Besides, Ravi Kumar bagged bronze in 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team and Apurvi Chandela in 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team.
Bhubaneswar,18/08/18:Today DGP,Odisha Dr.Rajendra P.Sharma reviewed the entire security arrangements for the Hockey World Cup at the Kalinga Stadium.
Commissioner of police Mr.Satyajit Mohanty,Mr.Amitabh Thakur,IGP,Mr.Anup Sahoo,DCP and many senior police officers of Commissionerate, Secretary Sports Mr. Vishal Dev and other officials of the Government, Hockey India officials, event management officials and senior officers of State Police Headquarters attended. All aspects of Security including arrangements at the Stadium, traffic, parking etc was discussed. All issues were discussed threadbare.
Arrangements for the security and safety of players inside the stadium, their accommodations and during the daily movement of participating teams were inspected.Speaking to Press Dr.Sharma said,” We have the responsibility to ensure tight security at the venue for the VIPs, officials and guest delegations from other participating countries during the event,”.
Sources said the visitors would enter and exit the stadium through six gates during the league. Besides, special arrangements have been made for the security of the players during their stay in hotels and travel to the venue.
