Talcher,22/11/18:24th NTPC Inter District and Odisha State Table Tennis Championships-2018 was organised by NTPC Talcher Kaniha under its CSR initiative in association with Sports Council & Odisha State Table Tennis Association. The tournament was held at Recreation Centre ,NTPC Kaniha from 18th November to 21st November 2018.
The CSR initiate tournament saw participation of around 350 players from various districts of Odisha. During the concluding day Shri Santosh James, Chief General Manager was the Chief Guest. Addressing the august gathering and players Shri James said “it was great privilege for NTPC Kaniha to host the sports event in association with Odisha State Table Tennis Association”.
He added such type of tournament provide good opportunity to budding emerging players to improve their performance which will pay the road to play at National and as well as international level. On the occasion, he congratulated the winners & organiser for making the event a grand success.
During the concluding ceremony Guest of Honour Shri Ramesh Sinha ,GM(Operation), Shri Naveen Bagai ,GM(C&M) Shri K S Sarma AGM(HR), Shri Rabindra Ku. Parida, Hony. Secretary OSTTA & Shri Rashmi Ranjan Satpathy, Sports Council Secretary, NTPC & Sports Council Executive members & Union & Association members & employees were present.
Cuttack, 19/11/18: Odisha Police has bagged five medals in total. The team won one gold and one silver medal in gymnastics and two silvers and one bronze medal in Wushu.
The valedictory ceremony of the third All India Police Judo Cluster-2018 was held at the Reserve Police Ground in Buxi Bazaar, Cuttack on Monday.
A colourful parade was organised by the participating teams in the afternoon at the Reserve Ground. Special Director, Intelligence Bureau, Arvind Kumar was the chief guest and took the ceremonial salute. He appreciated the efforts of the Odisha Police for successfully organising this grand All India Sports Meet.He also appreciated the sports infrastructure in Odisha and said that the state would be the strongest contender for organising the All India Police Athletics Championship in the future.
India will soon host the World Police and Fire Games, said Arvind Kumar. The Director General Police, Dr R. P. Sharma was the guest of honour. He suggested that visiting players should visit the nearby places of tourist interest in our State.
Dr Sharma thanked Govt of Odisha especially to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and the Sports Department for their support and co-operation in organising this event. ADGP-cum-organising secretary of the championship, V. T. Mishra gave the keynote address and vote of thanks.
ROURKELA,06/11/18:Prior to world Cup Hockey championship, which Odisha is organizing is for the first time the hockey fever is everywhere. Odisha Govt. under the leadership of Naveen Patnaik has taken enough steps to promote this world cip championship everywhere in the globe. In the process a hockey series of two games have planned between Odisha- and South Wales tem of Australia and the first mach was played in Bhubaneswar where Odisha team had defeated New South Wales team in the second match which was scheduled to play in Rourkela for the first time that any international match was being scheduled to play, played on Sunday at Biju Patnaik, Hockey Stadium which is managed and run by Rourkela Steel Plant. There were huge excitement among sports and specially hockey lovers in Rourkela. This match was played which was inaugurated by Honb’le Naveen Patnaik, CM of Odisha in front of huge crowd gathered to witness this event. As everybody know Sundergarh district is the mother district of producing Hockey stars who have represented International match for our country and proudly Dilip Tirkey is the best product this district has ever produced. This match was all exciting throughout the game and crowd present here had enjoyed the match to the fullest. In the first half Odisha-11 was managed with one goals scored by Prasanna Tirkey in the 28 minutes and then South Wales team had scored their successive two goals by Thomas Miuto. The foreign team managed to keep the lead and the crowd was all excited and cheers up for the home team. Odisha team then scored a goal and brings the goal tally to level but before the last few minutes of the game, South Wales team has scored another goal to end the score tally 3-2 and won the match. But since this was series of two games and each team has won one each, a penalty shootout was conducted which was ended 4-4. Finding no other option, sudden death penalty option was taken where Odisha team has scored one goal and won the series. The game which was played in Rourkela was all full of tension and excitement. Many viewers of the match thanked the initiative taken by Dilip Tirkey to conduct an international match in Rourkela. The prize distribution ceremony was held and the Chief Guest of the event was Chandra Sarathi Behera, Sports & Youth Services minster of Odisha. He gave away the prizes to the winner and runner-up team. Captain of South Wales team was declared Man of the Match where as Roshan Minz was adjourned as Man of the Match for the series. In this mega event other guests who present there were Subrat Tarai, MLA, Raghunathpalli and Chairman Planning Commission, Sundergarh, Sarda Nayak, Chairman, RDA, Dilip Tirkey, Chairman OTDC, Emma Ekka, President Zilla Parishad, Sushma Belung, Dy.Commissoner, RMC and Nirod Kumar Ray, Town Administrator, RSP.
ROURKELA,08/10/18: The 4th Intercity Gold Cup Hockey Tournament which was organized by Intercity Gold Cup Hockey Tournament Committee concluded yesterday. This committee has many International Hockey players in their different portfolios ,i.e Padma Shree, Dilip Tirkey as Patron, Michael Kindo, Lazrus Barla, Ignace Tirkey William Xalxo all are Olympians. This tournament had kick started from 21 st of Last month participated by many teams which was divided in two groups, one is rural group and the other one is Professional group. In the final match of Professional group which was held at 3 pm between Sports Hostel, Bhubaneswar and Sports Hostel, Rourkela. Match was very much exciting and Sports Hostel ,Bhubaneswar had defeated ,Sports Hostel, Rourkela in 2-1 goals to clinch the winner Trophy along with Rs.45,000 cash prize. The runner up team Sundergarh Sports Hostel had won Runner up Trophy and Rs.30,000 cash prize. In rural group there were 40 teams have participated from different districts, among them Karadapal Team of Deogarh stood numbe First followed by Dhodibahal as Second, Jareeikela as Third and Samalei Munda Team as Fourth team and won Rs.25,000, Rs.20,000,Rs.15,000 and Rs.10,000 respectively. This sporting gigantic event was well organized and in the Final match Santosh Amat, Chairman, Special Tribal Development Authority, Sundergarh had joined as Chief Guest and given away the prizes to different winners. This sporting event was witnessed by many other Guests and among them Sarda nayak, Chairman, RDA, Rourkela, Kedar Ranjan Pandey, GM(NTPC), Darlipali, Abhisek Agarwal, BNR, Barsuan were the few ones. All the matches were managed by Biswajit Sadangi, Nishajyoti Mohanty, Reshma Lakra, Jayant Kerketa and Parmeswar Marandi and their contribution could able to make this tournament a successful one.
ROURKELA,06/10/18:Odisha cyclist star Swasti Singh who had participated 5th Asian Track Cycling Championship, 2018 won the Gold medal for the country and made India proud. Rourkela Steel Plant(RSP) is known for producing sports legends have felicitated Swasti Singh by Ashwini Kumar, CEO, RSP, SAIL in a function organized at his office on 4th October, 2018 in presence of P K Pradhan, ED (P&A), N K Samantray, GM(Town Administration), Sushil Das, RSP Cycling Coach and Amar Singh father of Swasti Singh. She was felicitated with a memento. Ashwni Kumar after felicitating her congratulated her for the stupendous performance she has executed and expressed the hope that she will continue to bring glory for the country. Notably, Swasti Singh is the daughter of Amar Singh, a employee of RSP working in Oxygen Plant and a student of class-X at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Sector-6. She has been undergoing training under the cycling coach Sushil Das for the last 4 years and has won 2 Gold and 2 Silver Medals in the 38th Track Cycling Championship organized by Odisha Cycling Association representing RSP. She has also bagged the 4th position in 15 km event at National Road Cycling Championship held at New Delhi in 2016. This year she had bagged 3rd position in the 70th National Track Cycling Championship held at New Delhi in Janyary,2018. The glory what she has brought for the country is praise worthy and if she receives continuous advance coaching then she will get more medals.
ROURKELA,21/09/18:Rourkela SAIL Hockey Academy run by Rourkela Steel Plant has been producing international hockey players over these years and the latest edition is Shilanand Lakra. He has recently been inducted into India’s Junior team and also been made Vice Captain of the team to represent India in prestigious 8th Sultan Johar Cup-2018 to be played in Malaysia from 6th October, 2018. Alongside India the other team will be participating are New Zealand, Japan, Australia, Great Britain and the host Malaysia. Another boy, Pankaj Kumar Rajak from this Academy has also got a berth in the squad. Shilanand who plays in the forward already represented India in senior team this year and played in Malaysia in Sultan Azlan Shah Cup Tournament. He scored his first international goal against England. He also represented Under 23 Six Nation Tournament played in Belgium in July this year. He has also represented Jr. national Team which won the Bronze Medal in 7th Sultan of Johor Cup held in Malaysia in October 2017. Notably, he is a resident of Kalijapathar village of Sundergarh district and his parents are his father Carlus Lakra and mother Mary Grace Lakra. He joined SAIL Hockey Academy in the year 2015 and since then he never looked back. He was taking coaching under Raju Kant Saini a NIS coach as well as Peter Tirkey, former National Junior India Hockey player who is also a Hockey coach with RSP.
Bhubaneswar,10/09/18: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday felicitated four Odia girls in the national women’s hockey team and two in the men’s hockey team for their success in the recently concluded 18th Asian Games.
CM Naveen Patnaik handed over cash reward of Rs 1 crore each to four Odia woman hockey team players for clinching silver in the Asian games, at the secretariat here. CM Naveen Patnaik also presented Rs 50 lakh each to two men’s hockey team players who bagged bronze in the Asiad.
On the occasion,CM Naveen Patnaik congratulated the hockey players for their remarkable success in the Asian Games and said they have made India as well as Odisha proud. The CM promised that the state government would provide necessary help to them in future.
The Odia women hockey players who received Rs 1 crore cash rewards are Sunita Lakra, Namita Toppo, Lilima Minz and Deep Grace Ekka.
Similarly, Odia men’s hockey players- Birendra Lakra and Amit Rohidas received Rs 50 lakh each in recognition of their achievement in the Asian Games.
Jajpur,02/09/18:The small village of Gopalapur in Jajpur district has been in news ever since the village girl Dutee Chand (22) won two silver medals in 100 and 200 meter race in the 18th Asian Games in Jakarta.
The state government has announced to give Dutee three corer rupees for her winning two medals. But the parents of Dutee are not in a mood to leave their traditional weaving work despite raining of money on their daughter.
“Despite the success of our daughter, we will not leave traditional weaving work. We have been weaving silk saris and towels since long. Weaving is our profession. Each day we weave around three to four hours. We get pleasure by weaving,“said,Chakradhar,the father of Dutee.
“We provided food, clothes and education to all my five daughters and a son by earning money as weavers. We faced many hard times in the past. Now our financial condition is good. We are extremely happy after knowing that the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik granted three corers of rupees to Dutee for her achievement . It is a huge amount for us “, said Aakhuji (57) the mother of Dutee while weaving a sari in her house.
Prafulla Chandra Ghadai, former finance minister, recalled Dutee’s hard work and said she rose to her present position by strong determination and conviction.
“Dutee is a self-made, she rose to her present position because of her hard work. I thank Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for sanctioning Rs 3 corer to Dutee for her accomplishment,” said Mr Ghadai.
