Bhubaneswar,14/12/18:Indian men’s Hockey World Cup which is going on in Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar, Odisha has sought all praises for its magnificent management, lost its charm when the tournament favorites, India had lost to Netshockherland in a close match which was played in Kalinga Stadium with full spectators supporting and cheering India. India had lost this match by 2-1 from Netherland. But the match was a tough fight and Indian players had shown their skill to the optimum. Netherland the three times winner of this world cup has entered the Semi Final. Although the past record says Netherland is the favorite but having this match in Indian soil, India was the favorite. All Indians had a dream that this time India will become the champion in Indian Soil which has scattered. Fans present in the stadium were all disheartened with this performance. Nevertheless, all applaud should go to Chief Minister of the State, Naveen Patnaik for his brilliant effort to organize Hockey Men’s World Cup in Odisha. Team member and officials of all countries are fully satisfied with the preparation done by Odisha. India is now holding 5th rank in World ranking after Netherland. In overall India had played beautifully in this world cup and had given their all to perform well.
Angul, 5th Dec: Smash 2018, the mega Volleyball tournament organised by Jindal Officers Club (JOC) of Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (JSPL) at Sports Arena, Jindal Nagar was concluded on December 4th. Team Royal Dynamos, comprising players from HR, Central Utility, IR, ED Office and various other departments won the Trophy by defeating Josh team comprising players from CGP, RHMS, Logistics and Coal Washery in 2 – 0 sets in the exciting final match, held under floodlight.
Mr. Atul Misra, Executive Director (I/c) and Location Head of JSPL’s Angul unit, Mr. Damodar Mittal (EVP & Head - Iron Making & General Secretary JOC) and Mr. Alok Malhotra (Head-HR&ES) witnessed the final match as Chief-Guest and Guest-of-Honours respectively and presented the trophies in presence of various other department heads, employees and spectators from Jindal Nagar township and local villages.
Mr. Pravin of Power Striker won the Man of the Series (Smasher) trophy while Mr. Amar of Royal Dynamos received the Man of the Match trophy.
This Seven-day long tournament brought together selected players from about 40 different departments of JSPL and its allied companies to give their best sporting spirit under Six teams named as : Josh, Extreme, Royal Dynamos, Power Strikers, Spartans and Panther Blast.
Talcher,03/12/18:NTPC-MCL Cup organised at NTPC Kaniha in association with Sports Council on December 2,2018 at Stage II stadium of the township.
This is the 2nd year that NTPC Kaniha is organising the friendly cricket tournament for promotion of industrial relation between the PSUs.
The friendly cricket fixture was inaugurated on by Chief Guest Shri Santosh James, Chief General Manager ,NTPC Kaniha by trying a hand on the bat in the presence Shri K K Das ,GM(FM) , Shri N S Rao,GM(TS) & MCL officials.
On the occasion Shri James said “sports are necessary for maintaining fitness and it should be played with sportsmanship spirit which will make the game enjoyable. Such games should be played on regular basis for promoting healthy relation”.
In the limited 25 over match, Team NTPC Kaniha won the toss and elected to field first. MCL team scored 110/9 chasing the total Team NTPC Kaniha scored 111/4 in 16 over and won the match. Player from NTPC Kaniha ,Prasant Dsa was declared as the man of the Match by fetching four wickets.
Organisation of the match was coordinated by Shri Rashi Satpathy ,Secretary & Shri Tapanseswar Pradhan ,JointSecretary and executive members of Secretary Sports Council,NTPC Kaniha.

Bhubaneswar,Hockey is our national game and we had a splendid glory in the past and also having in good name and fame internationally. Odisha under the leadership of Naveen Patnaik who had dreamt of organizing such a big tournament is merely a high end courage and strong dedication. On 27th evening Bhubaneswar now have a colorful bath of lights and paintings of World Cup Men Hockey Tournament, experienced the mega event which was witnessed by lakhs of hockey fans across the globe. Odisha is privileged to have organized such a big event. The beautiful evening was started with felicitating the icons of world cup team who won the 1975 world championship. Soon after the cultural function kick started which was hosted by famous TV artist and cricket anchor Gaurav Kapoor. He arranged his words beautifully and welcomed all the captain of the team to the dais and also Shah Rukh Khan who was the main attraction of the event. He chained the entire crowd with his famous dialogue taken from his movie, Chak De India…70 minutes which inspired the crowd a lot. He thanked Naveen Patnaik this great effort and soon the entire evening was hypnotized by the dancers from different state under the dhak dhak girl, Madhuri Dikshit. Who danced beautifully at the centre stage mesmerized the entire crowd. The programme didn’t end here; it was yet to take high spirit when A R Rahman the famous music composer and director sang songs out of his great creation. The entire crowd danced to the tune he sets. Amid the programme the fire crackers of all colors were lighted, make the stadium dressed with beautiful colors, which was looked awesome. This 18 days sport kumbh will be played between the best 16 teams of the world with 36 matches altogether. In the opening Narendra Dhruv Batra, President of International Hockey Federation had shown his happiness by saying that no dream is big to achieve and thanked the Odisha Govt. for the splendid task taken. He further said Kalinga Stadium is one of the most magnificent stadiums in the world; hence, it made Bhubaneswar the sports capital of Odisha. Yesterday two matches were played where Belgium defeated Canada and the most favorite Indian team had beaten South Africa 5 nil. This match is witnessed by huge fan of Indian team and the game was all interesting. By organizing this, Odisha has proved its mettle to organize any such big tournaments in coming time.
Bhubaneswar, 28/11/18:Chief Minister of Odisha Naveen Patnaik released commemorative postage stamp on Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup at the State Secretariat here on Wednesday.
The stamps aim at commemorating the 14th edition of the World Cup in the state, which will kick start this evening. Belgium will lock horn with Canada while India will face South Africa in the first day of the mega global event.
During the releases the CM said, “I would like to thank the Postal Department for producing this beautiful stamp at the time of the Hockey World Cup,”.
Bhubaneswar,28/11/18:The Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2018 kick-started with a grand opening ceremony at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.
Shah Rukh Khan greeted people of Odisha in Odia and said, “Apana Mananku Bahut Bahut Dhanyabad, Mate Eithi Asibaku Sujog Deithibaru’.”
“I am proud to be here in Odisha for the inaugural ceremony of Hockey Men’s Hockey World Cup 2018,” “I am thankful to Naveen Patnaik,Chief Minister of Odisha”he further said.
The King of Bollywood also recreated his iconic ‘sattar minute’ dialogue from his film Chak De! India.
After his deliberation he invited to Naveen Patnaik on stage and introduced to all the team Captains.
Madhuri Dixit carried out a magical performance while India’s music sensation AR Rahman sung hit songs such as Dil Se, Humma Humma, Maa Tujhe Salaam among others.
Bhubaneswar,25/11/18:Captain of Men’s hockey team of Netherlands, Billy Baker, is quite optimistic about winning the Men’s Hockey World Cup scheduled to begin at Kalinga Stadium from November 28.
Dutch captain said “During 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, we secured 3rd place while we finished as runners-up in the 2014 World Cup. Hopefully, this time we will win the cup,” Baker said.
Talking about his team’s preparation, Baker said, “We are well-prepared for the World Cup and have a good feeling. Our players are quite experienced and have played well in big tournaments recently.”
“Many of our team members including me have played in the Hockey India league before so weather conditions are not a problem here,” Baker said.
Netherlands will begin their campaign on December 1 and is clubbed in Pool D, also called the ‘Pool of Death’ with heavyweights Germany, Pakistan and Malaysia.
Talcher,22/11/18:24th NTPC Inter District and Odisha State Table Tennis Championships-2018 was organised by NTPC Talcher Kaniha under its CSR initiative in association with Sports Council & Odisha State Table Tennis Association. The tournament was held at Recreation Centre ,NTPC Kaniha from 18th November to 21st November 2018.
The CSR initiate tournament saw participation of around 350 players from various districts of Odisha. During the concluding day Shri Santosh James, Chief General Manager was the Chief Guest. Addressing the august gathering and players Shri James said “it was great privilege for NTPC Kaniha to host the sports event in association with Odisha State Table Tennis Association”.
He added such type of tournament provide good opportunity to budding emerging players to improve their performance which will pay the road to play at National and as well as international level. On the occasion, he congratulated the winners & organiser for making the event a grand success.
During the concluding ceremony Guest of Honour Shri Ramesh Sinha ,GM(Operation), Shri Naveen Bagai ,GM(C&M) Shri K S Sarma AGM(HR), Shri Rabindra Ku. Parida, Hony.
