Ganjam ( Bhanjanagar),22/01/19:Bhanjanagar: Unleashing Red fear in Ganjam district last night, suspected members of CPI (Maoist) group snatched away cash and medicines from a ‘Mahaprayan’ hearse van near Ranikiari village under Gallery Police Out Post here last night. 

The incident took place at around 7.30 pm in the night while the hearse van was returning from Gallery after handing over a dead body to a family. On its way to Bhanjanagar Sub Divisional Hospital, at least six armed members intercepted the van and snatched away cash from the staff boarding it. 

“The looters’ group comprising of 2 women and 4 men, all carrying air bags and guns, also snatched away medicines available in the van and threatened us of dire consequences if we inform the matter to others. From their communication they members of the gang appeared to be non-Odias,” informed the driver of the van. 

However,Police have reached the spot and started investigation into the incident. 

Notably, this is not for the first time that Maoists have made their presence felt in the area. In 2008 the Red rebels on their way back from Nayagarh armoury loot had blown away the Gallery Out Post.

Kandhamal,22/01/19:Phulbani: In a tragic incident, at least eight persons including women and children were killed and over 25 sustained injuries after a mini truck slipped off Poiguda ghat road under Baliguda police limits in Kandhamal district today. 

As per the report, around 50 persons from Gadapur were en-route to Brahmanigaon to take part in a relative’s ‘priestly ordination’ held by Church in the morning when the mishap took place. It is suspected that the driver of the Tata 407 vehicle they were boarding was driving under the influence of alcohol due to which lost visibility and caused the vehicle to slip off the hilly road. 

As the vehicle plunged into a gorge after the mishap, at least six persons namely Lizarani Pradhan, Masiha Paltasingh, Almina Nayak, Dipak Nayak, Lazar Nayak, Pramila Chhatia died on the spot. 

Some locals immediately rushed to the spot and rescued the injured trapped inside the mangled mini truck. 

Later, local police and fire brigade teams rushed to the spot and sent the injured to MKCG Medical College and Hospital. At least five persons died on their way to hospital. 

Kandhamal Collector Brundha D has visited the accident spot to take stock of the situation.

Bhubaneswar,22/01/19:Sundergarh legislator Jogesh Singh, who had quit Congress on Friday after being suspended from the grand old party, tendered his resignation from the membership of Odisha Assembly on Tuesday. 

Two-time Congress MLA submitted his resignation letter to the Assembly Speaker, Pradeep Amat this afternoon. 

The Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee had suspended Singh for anti-party activities on Thursday, a day after its working president Naba Kishore Das resigned from the party. 

The Congress party also expelled senior leader and former Union Minister Srikant Jena and former MLA of Koraput Krushna Chandra Sagaria for anti-party activities. 

The development comes ahead of Congress President Rahul Gandhi’s scheduled visit to Odisha on January 25.

ROURKELA,22/01/19:Rourkela Sports Association (RSA) one of the finest sports organization of Rourkela has its women’s wing named, Pink women has organized one unique event, ’Srestha Gruhini’ in collaboration with the leading FMCG brand Ruchi Products on 20th of this month at Bhanja Bahwan. The first round screening was done on 12th February where 41 lady candidates were shortlisted for the final round which was held on Sunday. The organizers of the event have thrown everything to make it a grand success. To empower women and women strength, this effort was made, and women of Rourkela have justified the same by participating in large numbers. Ruchi Products was the main sponsor of the event with other co-sponsors. The mega event was kick started at 6 pm and different rounds of completion was floated whichwas judged by leading personalities of Rourkela consisting of Mrs. Lopamudra Mohanty, Ex. Mahila Commissioner of Odisha, Naliniprabha Pattnayak, Chairman, RIMS, Arundhati Swain, Head of ‘Murchana’ organization, Bhubaneswar. The Chief Guest of the event was Sj. Subrat Tarai, MLA, Raghunathpalli, and Planning Commissioner Chariman, Sundergarh. Arabinda Sahu, Director of Ruchi Products had joined the vent as Guest of Honor. The inaugural function was kick started with lamping the lights by the respected guests and dance program by the team of Nrutya Guru, Niladri Mohanty on Mahalaxmi Stuti. Following this various rounds of completion was floated by the organizers which were judged by the judges. The winner of the evening was Anamika Bohidar as ‘Ruchi Srestha Gruhini’ with a cash prize of Rs. 11,000. The first runners up was Papiya Majumdar who won Rs.5,000 cash prize and the second runner up was Sasmita Jena. Many other contestants have also won various prizes in different groups. The lady wing of RSA, Pink have initiated the felicitation programme for ladies who have excelled in their respective lines as part of lady empowerment and have created instances for many other ladies to follow. Among them Lopamudra Mohanty, Alaka Chand, Nalini Prabha Patnnayak were felicitated as lifetime achievements. Few other ladies who have succeeded in their respective lines were also felicitated and they were Bishunpriya Mohapatra, the leading writer of the city, Dr. Gitanjali Patri, Gynecologist and writer, Minati Debata, Rashimbala Mishra, Ex.Chairman, Rourkela Municipality, Padmini Panigrahi and Niharika Bastia. Kalapna Sathpathy of the RSA has introduced the awardees and Mihir Ray, General Secretary of RSA has briefed the objective of the organization. Minakshi Dhar and Prajita Mohanty have managed the anchoring part. The main attraction of the evening was participation by the Olywood heroine, Ahana. Large number of crowds have witnessed this mega event which was a grand success.

Bhubaneswar,20/01/19: TED is a non-profit organization devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks. Independently run TEDx events help share powerful ideas and thoughts in communities around the world. With a view to sharing its vision with TED and TEDx, TEDxXIMB 5.0 had speakers from diverse backgrounds sharing their thought-provoking and life-altering ideas with us based on the theme “Chakravyuh: The Inescapable Formation”. The speakers for TEDxXIMB 5.0 were Lt. Gen. Satish Dua, Mr. DivyanshuDamani, Dr.Sruti Mohapatra, Mr. Paul Walsh, Mr. Sachin Das Burma, Mr. A. L. Jagannath and Miss. Megha Vishwanath. 

First speaker Lt. Gen. Satish Dua, the highly decorated army officer, was the mastermind behind the surgical strikes conducted in response to the Uri attacks. He shared inspiring tales from his life and divulged how positive attitude has always helped him to achieve success in life. With numerous years of experience as a military officer, Lt. Gen. Satish Dua spoke about what it takes to keep the nation and its citizens safe. He also described the life of soldiers, the challenges they face and how they overcome them. 

Dr.Sruti Mohapatra, who works actively towards getting equal rights for differently-abled people, was our second speaker. She spoke about how disability is viewed as an impediment. She further spoke about how society should stop viewing disability as a disease and work towards accepting them for who they are. Dr.Sruti Mohapatra said that each maze has a way out and even if the whole world gives up on you, one should not give up. All we need to succeed in life is focus, determination and a lot of hard work. 

Our third speaker was Mr. Sachin Das Burma, the man responsible for the successful marketing campaign of Hockey World Cup held in Bhubaneswar. He explained that Chakravyuhs are present in all walks of life, one must realize its presence and work towards finding a way out. He spoke about how he broke the Chakravyuh of the traditional format of government advertisements and gave a new face to it thus encouraging us to not get tied up in traditional methods and ideas but rather work towards being creative and come out of the tradition shackles. 

Our fourth speaker, Mr. Paul Walsh - the Indian at heart, shared his life journey of encouraging and improving the lives of underprivileged children through Rugby. He explained how this, odd

shaped ball (rugby ball) had superpowers and how he used this amazing tool to change innumerable lives. He also shared some of the inspirational works that he and his team had done over the years. 

XIMB alumnus and well-known marketer, Mr. A. L. Jagannath was the fifth speaker. He motivated us to do something different and better and help ourselves succeed in our life. He explained the science behind golf and how it can help us to find our path out of Corporate Chakravyuhs. He also encouraged us not to delve in our pasts but instead get ready for the next thing just like in golf where the next shot is more important than the previous one. 

Our sixth speaker, Miss. Megha Vishwanath shared her story of how the Chakravyuh of discovering one's passion helped her to find herself. In times when her peers didn't have answers to any questions, she saw an opportunity and made the most of it. This led her to run many successful shows in her career as a successful journalist, television producer, and anchor. She gave valuable advice on how to look beyond our present and plan accordingly to become successful. 

Our final speaker, Mr. DivyanshuDamani, the social media influencer, spoke about how it is easy to influence and get influenced in this technologically advanced world. In this generation where people crave instantaneous success, he explained both the positive and negative aspects of influence. He also said that we should be careful as to whom we influence and by whom do we get influenced. 

After these inspiring and thought-provoking speeches, the audience enjoyed an enthralling performance from the traditional Odissi dancers who were wearing masks, made out of paper pulp and painted bright, known as "MedhaNacha" depicting the 'Nagajurna' Avatar of Lord Jagannath and Devi Maa (The Supreme Goddess). They danced to the rhythm of Changu and Dhol. 

Lastly, TEDxXIMB 5.0 was concluded by a vote of thanks by Miss. Akanksha Mohanty, the Curator and Lead Organiser, to express her gratitude to all the stakeholders responsible to make this event a grand success.
