ROURKELA,26/01/19:On the day of 70th Republic Day, one exhibition cricket match was organized by the district administration which was played between Lawyer’s-XI and Press- XI in the Udit Nagar Play Ground. This match was won by the Lawyer’-XI by 7 wickets. Despite the rainy weather all players from both the side was all enthusiastic for the game and match was kick started at around 3 pm with 12 overs each. The guest of the event, Ramesh Chandra Bal, President Rourkela Bar Association and DIPRO, Mr. Ashwini Kumar Bhoi had met all the players on the field and wished all the players for a tough fight. For the first time in Rourkela this match was supervised by two lady Umpires, Ex. State cricket players, Sushmita Patnaik and Ms.Suchitra Das. Captain of Press-XI, Rajesh Mohapatra and Captain of Lawyers-XI, Dhiren Garnaik went for the toss which was won by Press-XI and decided to bat first. In the scheduled over, batting first Press-XI had scored 91 runs on board with losing only four wickets. Shanker of Press-XI had scored the highest 29 runs. Chasing a healthy target, Lawyers-XI had reached the target in 10.4 overs by losing only 3 wickets. The unbeaten knock of 29 runs by Subhendu Dhal made the opponent to reach the target without any hitch. Subhendu Dhal was declared Man of the Match. Rajesh Mohapatra and Pratap Padhy had taken two wickets and one wicket respectively for Pres-XI. The Chief Guest of the match, Ramesh Bal had given away the winner and runner-up trophy to the respective teams. Both the umpires were also felicitated with gifts for their contribution to the game of cricket. This match was witnessed by a sizeable crowd’s despite bad weather condition. Journalist, Sushant Behera and Mahendra Mishra had coordinated the entire exhibition match and took the key responsibilities to make it a grand success.
