ROURKELA,17/12/18:When hockey fever is all over Odisha, Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has justified its ability to won the Late Balbhaduaji Kayal National Hockey Tournament in New Delhi defeating Army Artillery Center, Nasik. This feat received by SAIL team in a week time having won the 115the All India Aga Khan Gold Hockey Tournament on 9th December, 2018. This match was tough fight between the two, SAIL team defeated Artillery Center by 2-1 goals in the final match in front of a huge crowd. Kingson Singh & Samir Ekka of SAIL team were adjourned the Man of the Match and Best Player of the tournament respectively. Before this victory SAIL team had defeated Maharashtra Police and Aurangabad team to reach quarter final. In the quarter final match this team defeated Amarvati and AOC, Secunderabad to reach final. SAIL hockey team has been producing National and Internatinal players over these years and has been consistent in performing in various national and International matches. This team is trained and groomed in Rourkela Steel Plant, SAIL. This year 2018 has been a memorable year for SAIL Hockey Academy having won various prestigious tournaments. As recently World Cup Hockey Men’s Tournament was organized in the soil of Odihsa, Birendra Lakra, an alumnus of Sail Hockey Academy(SHA) represented India. Besides, Silanand Lakra and Pankaj Rajak, cadets of the academy had done exceptionally well in Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey Tournament and Sultan Johar Cup Hockey Tournament held at Malaysia. This is not all, SHA have also won Shri Nawagarh Trophy and 8th Vindod Khandekar under 21 All India Gold Cup Hockey Tournament. The effort put in by SAIL to bring young talents in soprts is remarkable.
