Report by: Rajesh Mohapatra,odishabarta

ROURKELA,27/08/18:Neeraj Chopra the flag bearer in this 18th Asian Games clinched the Gold medal after throwing 88.06 meter in Javelin which was a masculine effort, defeated others  with a long distance. With this, he has broken his own record of 87.43 meter; a splendid job is done by any Indian athlete in track and field event. His first throw was 83.46 meter and continuously threw more than 82 meter excepting two attempts which went wrong. None other competitor came his closest. He has been performing very well in International javelin events. He also won a Gold medal in recently concluded Common Wealth Games with a throw of 86.47 meter. Before the event kick started, he was the favorite one for the crowd. He has shown tremendous patience and confidence which brought him this glory. After winning the event, in a conversation, he dedicated this medal to Atal Bihari Vajpayee to whom he respects the most. His achievement today was the cherry on the cake. There were other participants who won medals Sunday onwards and they are Dutee Chand (Silver medal in 100 meter for women),Hima Das (Silver Medal in 400 meter), Muhammed Anas (Silver Medals in 400 meter), Tajinderpal Singh Toor (Gold Medal in Shot Put), Dharun Ayyasamy (Mens400m Hurdles), Sudha Singh (Women’s 3000m Steeplechase)and Neena Varakil (Women’s  Long Jump).

Neeraj Chopra after winning the Gold Medal, was congratulated by our Prime Minster, Narendra Modi through his Twitter account. Many veteran sports players have also congratulated him on this achievement and wished him a better luck ahead. Now he has become the young icon for many young budding athletes in the country. In his reaction he said he had worked hard for this and finally it paid him nicely. Great things come with great determination.
