Berhampur,,26/07/19:Berhampur is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Kargil Vijay Diwas on Friday. It marks the end of Kargil conflict where Indian soldiers successfully recaptured mountain heights that had been seized by Pakistani intruders.
The Kargil War was the last time India and Pakistan came to a full-blown armed conflict. The Kargil War was also the first time India and Pakistan got into an armed conflict after becoming nuclear powers.
Berhampur Sub Collector,Mr Diganta Routray who joined as guest of the celebration at Jagadalpur and given flowery homage to Martyr Srinivas Patro..People from across the Ganjam,many youth association, and media persons took active participation.
Briefing to scribes Mr Routray said, If we recall this date that India recaptured all the peaks by July 26, 1999,.The Kargil conflict to an end. More than 500 Indian soldiers died in the Kargil War. The Indo-Pak Kargil conflict, known as Operation Vijay, was fought between India
The conflict was engineered by Pakistan, infiltrating its troops and occupying vacated dominating heights across the LoC overlooking and threatening National Highway besides violating territorial integrity of the Nation.
Indian Army soldiers, have shown the utmost fortitude and resilience, fought legendary battles in Dras, Kaksar, Batalik and Turtok sectors at heights above 12,000 feet and evicted Pakistani intruders.
Indian Air Force also contributed significantly and supported the Army operations.
Mr Routray also expressed confidence that the Indian Armed Forces would continue to serve the country with unwavering dedication and discipline keeping with their glorious traditions.
