Berhampur,15/03/19:With elections drawing closer, Director General of Police (DGP) Dr.Rajendra Prasad Sharma Friday reviewed preparedness of security forces law and order, crime and other related electioneering issues with the SPs and Range IGP to ensure peaceful polls in south Odisha at the conference hall of IGP,(SR),Behampur.
It was the first full-fledged meeting on the eve of forthcoming General Election in Berhampur.A threadbare discussion was held with the all District Superintendent of Police under the southern range.
DGP asked the SPs to assess the booths and make vulnerability mapping of the booths and critical polling stations basing on the past incidents of violation, political rivalries, booth capturing etc during 2014 general election .
He also asked the SPs to start the confidence building with the PUBLIC-POLICE and exercises in the Districts, so as to create a friendly and fearless environment before the election.
There will be several meeting; rallies and VVIP visits safety of the candidates in the Districts are expected during electioneering. DGP instructed the SPs to be fair and judicious while granting permission for the purpose.
“All necessary steps should be taken to ensure that the election is conducted peacefully in a smooth manner without any untoward incident,” Sharma said.
Necessary measures for transportation and movement of election materials including electronic voting machines (EVMs) were also discussed.

Berhampur,14/03/19:The Gosainuagaon Police arrested five robbers from Haladiapadar fly over bridge the outskirts of the city on National Highway-16 in the Berhampur police district today.
Today in a press meet Mr BP Pati,SDPO(City),briefed that on 13/14.03.2019 night at about 2.00 A.M while Sub Inspector Joyti Ranjan Behera of Gosaninuagam P.S along with sub staffs were performing night patrolling duty at N.H-16 in Police PCR vehicle received information that a group of anti-social were assembled near Haladiapadar fly over bridge being armed with deadly weapons like; pistol. Sword, bombs etc to commit docaity from Hotel Puspa.
Acting in action Police team rushed the spot, and caught red handed 5 culprits with arm and ammunitions.
They were identified as Bhabani Sakar Padhi(26 Yrs) ,Sujit Kumar Sahu(21 Yrs) Prasant Kumar Sahu(28Yrs) Sarat Sahu(26Yrs) and Susant Sahu(30Yrs) .
Police have seized one single shut pistol, 2 rounds of Live ammunitions , three nos of sword, one Nokia Mobile phone, cash of Rs 480/-, two nos of bomb were from their possession.
The five robbers have been arrested and forwarded to court. Further investigation in underway," said Summet,IIC,Gosaninauagaon.

Phulbani,12/03/19:A woman Maoist was gunned down in an encounter with security forces near Tumudibandha forests in Odisha’s Kandhamal district on Wednesday.
Earlier on the day, Maoists’ posters were surfaced at Parampanga village under Baliguda sub-division in the same district asking people of the region to boycott the upcoming general elections.
ADG (Operation) RP Koche said, acting on a specific tipoff about a hideout of ultras in forests at Tumudibandha, security forces raided the place and gunned down a woman Maoist. However, some cadre Maoists managed to flee the spot.
A group of Maoists, which had set up a camp in the jungle, were tracked down by the forces on Wednesday following which the security personnel entered the jungle and had a brief exchange of fire with the red rebels. In the lengthy exchange of fire, a female Maoist was killed on the spot. Besides, the forces seized four guns, there grenades and several other Maoist articles were also seized during the search. We have deployed Special Operation Group (SOG) and District Voluntary Force (DVF) for combing operation in the area, he added.
Cuttack,11/03/19:In order to provide full proof security during the election, a high-level meeting on Monday was held to discuss the security arrangements during the visits of political leaders to various areas.
DGP RP Sharma held the meeting with CP, Range IGPs, DIGPs, DCPs and District SPs through video conferencing. The DGP said that there should be effective and unobtrusive security arrangement.
Similarly, Senior IB and SPG officials who attended the attended the programme, apprised the officers in the field through power point presentation about the possibilities of multi-faceted security threats to the VVIPs, including MP and Union Ministers during the election campaign.
The experts who came from IB and NSG suggested several precautionary and preparatory measures during the visit of VVIPs and other dignitaries.
There should be different types of security arrangement for different categories of dignitaries.
The security arrangement for Prime Minister should be done as prescribed in the Blue Book.
The District SPs should have close coordination with the officers of SPG during the visit of PM.
The SPs should also liaison with the local organizers during public meetings or road shows.
Selection of meeting venue needs to be done keeping the security angles in view.
Adequate steps should be taken for effective crowd control.
Parking place should be selected at a safe distance from the meeting place.
There should be an adequate light arrangement in the dais as well as a meeting place.
A limited number of people should be allowed on the dais during VVIP programme.
Steps should be taken to avoid fire hazards and other man-made accidents during public meetings.
Fire fighting equipment shall be kept in readiness.
There shall be adequate checking and frisking of people during the public meeting.
Special security arrangement shall be done during VVIPs road shows.
Sniffer dog, explosive detector, CCTV and other electronic gadgets shall be used to strengthen the security.
Preparation and safety of helipads to be seen.
Radio Communication and navigation equipments must be used by the crew members of helicopter carrying VVIPs.
There should be contingency planning for any untoward incident during election campaign.
Proper certification should be obtained from GED, Fire Service, PWD and other line departments who are involved in the preparation of stage, barricading and helipads.
The SOP for road shows of VVIPs to be strictly followed.
There should be adequate clearance all around the stage.
Adequate barricading to be done in the meeting place.
Duty passes to be issued to the officers on duty.
There should be double checking of people in the front sector of the meeting place

Berhampur,11/03/19:The Sadar police late on Sunday night nabbed five dacoits while they were planning crime in an under constructed house of Udhava Patra of Balipada and Balipada Petrol Pump.
Acting on a tip-off, the Sadar police conducted the raid and apprehended 4 hardcore criminals. They were identified as Tofan Sethy, Samber Khata,Y Purna [email protected] and Salim Khan.However one accused managed to free from the spot taking advantage of darkness. Police has seized 1 pistol 1sword 2 knife 3 mobiles 1 bike and 1 iron rod from their possession.
TWO WOMEN MAOISTS SURRENDER
Koraput,07/03/19:Two women Maoist cadres surrendered before DGP Rajendra Prasad Sharma, who is in Koraput district to attend a poll preparedness review meeting on anti-Maoist operations during poll .
The surrendered militants have been identified as Madi Sukanti and Kausalya Khila.
According to police reports, Madi was an area committee member, while Kausalya was a member of the Khila part. The two rebels were reportedly involved in several violent activities across Malkangiri district, officials added.
The duo will be rehabilitated and provided monetary assistance as per the Surrender and Rehabilitation Scheme of Government of Odisha, the police further informed.
On Thursday DGP,Sharma reviewed the preparedness of Police and Central Armed Police forces in South Western Range in view of the ensuing general and assembly elections.
Director (Intelligence) Sunil Ray, IG, BSF, Senior CAPF Officers, DIG, SWR and Superintendents of Police of SWR Range were present in the meeting.
Sharma interacted with the Police and CAPF Officers regarding their preparedness for the ensuing elections. He exhorted all officers to work as a team and ensure that the ensuing elections are conducted peacefully and without any violence.
He reviewed the operational preparedness of the Police and guided the present Police Officers to increase the intelligence-based operations. The DGP also interacted with PRI members from Ganja cultivation areas of Malkangiri and Koraput district.
An elaborate discussion was made on shifting of cultivation from Ganja to other crops. PRI members participated in discussions and showed their willingness to make the people aware of alternate corps.
They suggested that turmeric cultivation and vegetable farming can be taken up. They suggested to have a procurement centre for turmeric at Chitrakonda Mandi which will motivate the farmers to go for alternate farming. Sharma assured them that he would apprise the Government of the issues so that these discussions convert into a working mechanism to develop an alternate cropping system in the area so that drug menace is uprooted from the source itself in the area.

Berhampur,05/03/19:Police have arrested three highway robbers for attacking Golanthara Police Station IIC’s (Inspector-in-charge) vehicle. The arrested persons have been identified as Rabi Narayan Padhi, Ananda Kumar Padhi and Runa Kumar Sahu.
The incident took place on 3rd March, when Golanthara IIC, while on his way to Berhampur, spotted five miscreants demanding “Dada Vati” money from commuters by detaining cars and trucks on the NH near Konisi. However, after the police official questioned the miscreants, they attacked him and the personal car of IIC,Golonthra Police station.
Later, Gosaninuagaon Police reached the spot and arrested three miscreants while the other two managed to give the cops a slip.
“We have registered a case against the accused and have intensified patrolling to nab the other two miscreants,” We are on the run to nab the 2 absconding accused persons said,Jayant Kumar Mohapatra,SDPO,Sadar,Berhampur.
Three accused have been forwarded to court on 4.3.19 and Golanthara police registered a case no 42/19u/S,395 IPC/25/27Arms act. Police have seized 3no of lathi 1 sword, one Indigo Car,OD-10B-8089 and one Scooty bearing Regn No- AP-30-AM-1415 he added.

Berhampur,04/03/19: As many as two police personnel of Golonthra Police station were sustained critical injuries in Berhampur last night as they were allegedly attacked by a group of miscreants .
According to reports, "On way the police to city from police station near Kanishi Dhaba nearly 3-5 miscreants suddenly attacked Basanta Sethy,Police officers of Golonthara PS and Officer in Charge inside a personal car,".
Police have detained three persons in connection with the attack.
While interacted with SDPO, Sadar,Jayant Mohapatra he said, the IIC Golanthara was in plain cloth and was in his personal Car. Near Kanishi Dhaba he noticed some mischief are available nearby the Dhaba so, he intervened with identity but the goons misbehaved to Officers.
However, three persons have been arrested. We are on the job to apprehend the absconding miscreants patrolling has been intensified steps are on to curb down the menace.
