Ganjam/Cuttack,16/08/18:Over tonnes of Ganja was seized by the police in Odisha’s Malkangiri,Ganjam and Berhampur police districts during last couple of days.
Today i.e. on 14.8.2018, Suryanarayan Rath, Sub-Inspector of Excise, Nimapara, holding additional charge of Pipili, Dist- Puri has been caught red-handed by the officers of Vigilance, Bhubaneswar Division for demanding and accepting illegal gratification of Rs.8,500/-from Prasanna Kumar Palai of village Chalisbatia, Dist-Puri for deposing in favour of complainant Sri Palai in the Court in connection with the Excise Case registered against the complainant by S.I. Excise Sri Rath.
Accordingly, a trap was laid on 14.8.2018 at about 12:05 P.M. Rath, Excise Sub-Inspector was caught red-handed by the Vigilance officers in front of Sadar P.S., Puri while demanding and accepting the bribe of Rs.8,500/-from complainant Sri Palai. The bribe money Rs.8,500/- was recovered from the pant pocket of Sri Rath and seized in presence of witnesses. Both hands wash as well as pant pocket wash of Sri Rath gave positive chemical reaction confirming acceptance and handling of bribe amount by him. His residential house at Puri Town is being searched. Sri Rath has been arrested and forwarded to the Court.
On dated.13/08/18during vehicle checking at Samantaraghai Chowk Sorada PS under Ganjam district the police staff detected 25kg 700 gms contraband Ganja which is being transported by an Bolero regd. no.OD 10A 3646 and detained the driver Upendra Saunta.
In another major crack down during 1st week of august some smugglers have thrown nearly two quintals of contraband Ganja on road side under Sadar Police limit Berhampur.
While interacted with the IIC,Sadar PS,Berhampur he told “ We received our intelligent input that some smugglers transporting Ganja by a private bus from Aska to Berhampur,in action we blocked the connecting road but the smugglers have thrown the Ganja packed gunny bags on the road side”and they pretend very innocent when we inspect the bus”.
Sadar police have recovered and informed to the Excise department to collect the seized bags and we handover the case to Excise Dept.
According to Malkangiri Superintendent of Police Jagmohan Meena, the contraband was found in 34 packets hidden inside the container truck. During interrogation, the arrested revealed that that they had procured the stock from the remote Darakonda area under the Chitrakonda police station limits.
Drug mafia from outside Odisha finance illegal ganja plantations in the remote areas of the Maoist-infested Malkangiri district. The harvested contraband is smuggled outside the State,according to police sources.
On July 4, Ganja being smuggled to Maharashtra in a fake 108 ambulance was seized by the police in the Mathili police station area of the district with the arrest of two persons.
Previous days Berhampur Police have seized 85 Kgs of Ganja from station road and one person has been arrested in this connection by Berhampur Cops. The contraband was packed in packets, weighing 2 kg each, Person arrested who was identified as Rajendra Swain of Chikilli Village under Seragada Block.Ganjam.
"We suspect the person was used as a transit manager for transporting Ganja to different places, mostly outside the state. These might have been procured from marijuana-growing districts like Kandhamal, Gajapati and Rayagada".
Sources said, and our preliminary inquiry showed that the contraband was to taken in a train to Surat in Gujarat by the Mafias(!).
Mostly the regular moments are well noticed to the Excise Department of Ganjam in advance and E.I.B staff members are playing a vital role behind the screen to entertain the smugglers (?).
CUTTACK,13/08/18:Today i.e. on 13.8.2018, Smt. Mahosmita Panda, Inspector In-charge (IIC), NTPC Police Station, Kaniha, Angul has been caught red-handed by the officers of Vigilance, Cuttack Division for demanding and accepting illegal gratification of Rs.10,000/- (Rupees Ten Thousand) from complainant Suvendu Kumar Dash of village Telisingha, Kaniha, Angul to bail out aunt and cousin brother of complainant in NTPC PS Case No.53 dt.31.7.2018 u/s 294/323/379/506/34 IPC.
Accordingly, a trap was laid on 13.8.2018 at about 12:45 P.M. Smt. Panda, IIC, NTPC PS, Kaniha was caught red-handed by the Vigilance officers inside her office chamber while demanding and accepting the bribe of Rs.10,000/- (Rupees Ten Thousand) from complainant Sri Dash. As per direction of Smt. Panda, complainant Sri Dash kept the bribe money of Rs.10,000/- (Rupees Ten Thousand) in her personal diary. The bribe money Rs.10,000/- (Rupees Ten Thousand) was recovered and seized in presence of witnesses. Contacted portion of personal diary wash of Smt. Panda gave positive chemical reaction. Her residential Govt. quarter at NTPC Police Station Campus, Kaniha and house at Qr. No.BB-4, Railway Colony, Atharabanki, Paradeep are being searched. Smt. Panda has been arrested and forwarded to the Court.
ROURKELA,12/08/18:In a recent incident one gir who was returning home after doing her duty with a private company was given a lift as passenger and then without dropping her at her residence they took forcibly to Durgapur hill near Timber colony and raped her. After raping the girl both the accused had thrown her and flew from the spot. Police has now arrested both the accused and also seized the Auto they had used for the heinous crime. Accused are Rahul Prasad of Gurududwara road and Manish Prasad Soni of Gopabandhupalli. Both are auto drivers and the auto is owned by Manish Soni, said PK Mishra, DSP,Rourkela. After getting the police FIR police had extended their search and finally managed to catch both the accused. Family members and other social activist of Rourkela have shown their satisfaction for the good job done by the police but they expect the strict action should be taken against the accused so that it should frighten others to do any such crime in future. After the arrest police has forwarded both the accused to the court and their bail request has been rejected there and now they are in jail.
Kandhamal,12/08/18:Today around noon hours in a tragic road accident at Sarangad in Kandhamal one lady was killed under G.Udayagiri police limit. The couple who were travelling by a Scooty they met a major accident on face to face with a Oil tanker from opposite side.On spot the lady was died and the male person sustained severe injuries was shifted to Raikia Hospital in critical condition with the help of local public. Both deceased and injured persons not yet identified.Tension prevailed in the area after the mishap. No police not yet reached to the spot (?).
Jajpur,11/08/18: A married woman was allegedly gang raped by three persons on the pretext of job and was later dumped on the road side. The incident took place at Chilipada under Korai police limits in Jajpur district.
When the matter came to light on Saturday some local rescued her from the road side and informed the police about the happenings. However,police reached the sight and took the woman for medical examination in the local hospital.
According to police the woman, who was estranged by her husband is a resident of Kuakhia police limits. She is currently working at a private college in Bhubaneswar to earn a living.
The victim told the police that, she arrived at Panikoili bus stop on Friday evening to visit a relative’s house. Meanwhile, three persons indentified as Bodhia Malick, Lala Malick and Hani Rout approached her and asked her the purpose of her visit to the area.
After she expressed her necessity of a job, the accused persons offered her a job at a car showroom. Following this, the woman agreed to go with them, it was learnt.
The woman also alleged that the accused persons took her to a secluded place; snatched away Rs 10,000 from her and took turns to rape her. Later, in the morning they dumped her on the road side with a threatening not to reveal the matter to anyone and fled from spot.
On the basis of the complaint made by the victim, police launched a manhunt to nab the suspects, who are absconding after the matter came to the fore.
Ganjam,10/08/18:A sex racket running in a hotel was busted by Polosara Police in Odisha’s Ganjam district.
Polosara Police team led by IIC,Ms.Tapaswini Kanhar conducted a raid in Ratni Lodge of Polasara and caught red-handed one boy with one college going girl in compromise position.
They both belong to Kodala and Purusottampur area.
During the interrogation the boy admitted he is already married. The lodge owner is always encouraging them with high rent and allowing many college boys for doing such offensive work.
The girl Sarmistha (Fake name) rescued by the cops from the hotel, who was allegedly involved in the flesh trade in the hotel since long (!).
As per the available information, the sex racket was going on at a hotel under Polasara police limits in the district for the last few months.
The police has arrested Laxmi Naryan Panigrahy,Dharmedra BIsoi, including hotel owner and girl was sent to a government shelter home.
Polosara police has registered a case under immoral traffic prevention Act later both the accused person have been forwarded to court after Medical examination and other formalities.

Berhampur,09/08/18:A hardcore criminal was nabbed after an encounter near Charimili square under the Aska police limits in Ganjam district of Odisha on Thursday.
According to Santosh Mohanty, IIC, Aska the accused criminal has been identified as Kalu Biswal of Kabisurya Nagar the principal accused of Sania Bisoi,one of BJD leader murder case of Badagada in Ganjam. During exchange of fire he sustained bullet injuries on his legs.
Over telephonic discussion Mr Brijesh Ray, SP, Ganjam said, based on the intelligence input, a police team of Aska police station tracked down Kalu at Charimile square. When they tried to apprehend him, Kalu fired at the police personnel. In retaliation, the police team force to fire and injured him. From his possession our police have seized one revolver, live bullets, one mobile phone and one motorcycle. Our police team admitted him at Aska Hospital later shifted to Berhampur MKCG-MCH hospital.
The criminal was wanted by Ganjam and Berhampur police for long time who involved in several cases including murders, and different extortion cases.he added.
Cuttack,09/08/18:The Hon’ble Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar had pronounced Judgment on 03.07.2018 convicting Vinod Kumar, IAS , Ex- Managing Director, Odisha Rural Housing Development Corporation (ORHDC), Bhubaneswar , Purna Chandra Das, the then Executive Director (Technical), ORHDC, Sanjay Mohanty, Ex- Asst. Manager, ORHDC, Pradeep Kumar Rout, Ex- Accounts Officer, ORHDC,Chittaranjan Mallick, Ex-Accountant (Contractual), ORHDC and Asish Kumar Nayak, Secretary of Gramya Bikas Mancha as they were found guilty of offences U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act., 1988 and Section 420/120-B of Indian Penal Code in Bhubaneswar Vigilance P.S. Case No.54/2007 for criminal conspiracy, obtaining pecuniary advantage to NGO Gramya Bikas Mancha owned by Asish Kumar Nayak by releasing funds in an arbitrary manner without following the guidelines to set up Rural Building Centre (RBC), Balipatna and thereby cheating State and Financial Institutions. Hon’ble Court pronounced sentence against the convict Sri Sanjay Mohanty, Ex-Assistant Manager, ORHDC, who was present in the Court on the date of judgement and issued NBWs against the others for their production in the court.
The other five convicts in respect of whom sentences were kept reserved and NBWs were issued, took shelter in the Hon’ble High Court by filing Misc. Cases. The Hon’ble High Court rejected all the Misc. Cases on 7.8.2018 and ordered them to surrender before the trial court for hearing of sentences.
As per the orders of the Hon’ble High Court dt.07.08.2018, convict Pradeep Kumar Rout and Chittaranjan Mallick surrendered before Hon’ble Court of Spl. Judge, Vigilance Bhubaneswar, to-day i.e. on 08.08.2018 and the trial court pronounced the sentence against them to undergo Rigorous Imprisonment for three years and to pay a fine of Rs. 25,000/- each on each count for the offence U/s 13(2) P.C. Act/420/120-B IPC, in default to undergo Rigorous Imprisonment for two months each on each default. The sentences are to run concurrently. Convict Sri Pradeep Kumar Rout and Shri Chittaranjan Mallick have been sent to the jail custody.
Earlier, on 4.8.2018, Asish Kumar Nayak, Secretary of Gramya Bikash Manch was sent to jail custody after pronouncement of sentence against him.
