New Delhi,04/06/19In an era when Lok Sabha members quickly pass bill to increase their salaries often in late hours of evening or night that too without any discussion, it was welcome to note that some newly elected Lok Sabha members like Sadhvi Pragya Thakur and Varun Gandhi have declared that they will not be taking any salary for being Parliamentarian. It is noteworthy that Sadhvi Pragya Thakur even does not come from a rich family.
There are many Parliamentarians who have adequate wealth and income so as not to require their salary-burden as Parliamentarians on public-exchequers. An appeal can be made by Prime Minister to all Parliamentarians not to burden public-exchequer through their salaries and allowances in case they can afford to do so. All such members surrendering their salaries and allowances should be honoured by President of India for motivation of others.
Likewise Parliamentarians having their own residences in Delhi or who can afford without government-accommodation should surrender their right for government-accommodation like was done by Rajya Sabha member Sachin Tendular. Such Parliamentarians should also be publicly honoured by President of India.
